Why? You May Ask?

Questions have been raised about why couches and chairs are placed in the apparatus bay, despite having a designated lounge area. The answer is rooted in tradition and the unique atmosphere of conversation that takes place in the bay. This photo, taken just ten minutes after 11 p.m. during a staffed shift, captures a mix of senior personnel, newer members, and experienced veterans gathered together. Some are using their phones, but when an important discussion arises, devices are quickly set aside. As many veteran members can attest, the bay provides a distinct setting for meaningful interaction.

Multiple Tractor Trailer Collision

At 4:33 p.m. on Tuesday, township fire and EMS units responded to a tractor trailer accident on Interstate 81 Northbound at mile marker 55.6. A passing EMS crew from Company 40 reported one person injured and three tractor trailers involved in the crash. Due to heavy traffic in both directions, emergency vehicles experienced delays reaching the scene.

Squad 31 arrived in the southbound lane and found one tractor trailer in the median, partially blocking the southbound travel lanes. Squad 33 and Chief 33 responded in the northbound lanes, where crews began evaluating the second and third vehicles for damage and determining the necessary resources.

One travel lane remained open in each direction to allow traffic flow, but this resulted in significant delays. Traffic control support was provided by fire police from Company 33, Company 31, and Company 23. The incident occurred just after a storm had passed through the area, further straining fire police resources.

Because there were no serious injuries and no hazardous fluid spills, fire apparatus were released from the scene. Fire police and Chief 33 stayed behind as tow crews worked to clear the wrecked vehicles. All lanes of Interstate 81 were reopened shortly after 7:00 p.m.
