Today’s training was a reminder that skills don’t just happen. They are passed from one firefighter to the next.

Experienced members spent the day teaching, coaching, and sharing lessons learned. Newer firefighters gained hands on experience that will help them perform when someone calls for help on their worst day.

Training builds competence. Mentorship builds firefighters. We are grateful for both. 🚒

🚨 LITHIUM-ION BATTERY SAFETY 🚨

Today, Hampden Township Volunteer Fire Company responded to an e-bike battery fire. Fortunately, it occurred outside. Had it happened inside a home, garage, or apartment, the results could have been devastating.

Lithium-ion batteries can fail without warning, causing intense fires, toxic smoke, and explosions. As e-bikes, scooters, tools, and other rechargeable devices become more common, battery fires are increasing across the country.

Protect your family:

🔋 Use only approved batteries and chargers
🔋 Never charge batteries unattended or overnight
🔋 Stop using batteries that are damaged, swollen, or overheating
🔋 Never throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash

♻️ Find a safe battery recycling location:

If a battery starts smoking, hissing, or overheating, get out, stay out, and call 911.

Tonight over 45 members attended a briefing conducted by Chief Churchill that focused on building a highly reliable organization. Working together as a team and valuing the input of all was discussed. Everyone brings something to an organization and understanding culture is very important. Together we are building the future of HTVFC while respecting our traditions. If you are interested in becoming part of our organization send a message!

Today HTVFC members participated in the Hampden Township Veterans Recognition Committee’s - Run to Remember at the Veterans Memorial Park! Our Fire Police provided traffic safety while others provided support! We even had a few runners. It’s important to remember the reason for Memorial Day. To mourn, honor, and remember U.S. military personnel who died while serving their country.

At approximately 1710 hrs, Hampden Township Volunteer Fire Company and mutual aid partners were dispatched to a motor vehicle incident involving two vehicles on Interstate 81. Crews arrived to find both vehicles involved in a collision with debris scattered across the roadway and a fuel spill present.

Fire and EMS personnel secured the scene, mitigated the fuel spill, and assisted with traffic control while crews worked to clear the roadway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Fire Police units, PennDOT, the Pennsylvania State Police, Cumberland County communications personnel, EMS agencies, and mutual aid companies assisted with traffic management and scene operations.

Thank you to all responding agencies and partners for their assistance and teamwork during the incident.
