Friends and family, the Hanover Hound K9 SAR lost an amazing Vice President, Membership Director, and K9 Handler in the person of April Sawyer Minter. Her skills were the best, and her dedication was immense. Her love for her family showed all of us how to love our friends and families.

April. I will miss you until the time we meet, so rest in Peace, my friend. When you see Ed, give him a hug for me.

It’s with a heavy hearts that K9 officer “Scooby” Minter ran her last run November 14,2021. Handler/ Vice President Chris and April Sawyer Minter our team members and honorary member Elena Minter had a tough weekend with a quick decline of Scooby. We love you all and salute you!

Scooby made her entrance in to the Minter family with some serious health issues for a puppy. But thanks to her strong will she made it through losing 8 inches of intestines due to an umbilical hernia at the age of only 2 months old. The family waited on pins and needles and had already grown very fond of her even after a very short period of time together. The minters knew Scooby was meant to be here to do great things and so they found Hanover Hounds Search and Rescue and Scooby’s training began. Of course she was a natural and really enjoyed her new found job and purpose. In the mornings when preparing for training Scooby would get so excited and would jump right into the truck. She loved her job very much! She helped with lost and found safe and sound the program that helps teach children what to do when the find themselves in a situation were they are lost. This may have very well been her favorite moments as a SAR K9. Scooby decided at about 2 years old to go on a survival adventure and jumped a 8 foot fence. Once again her family was sad, worried, and thought they had lost her forever. Thanks to the local News and diligent members of the Ashland community she was found after spending 3 days in the snow. She jumped right into her handlers truck and once she realized she was home she went right to sleep. In the years to come she was called out on many adventures to find missing loved ones no matter the time of day or weather she was up for the challenge. She spent the last few years of her life giving her family so many memories and special moments. She enjoyed going camping with her family and was a very special part of our lives. Scooby was known and loved by so many and the bond she had with her handler was extremely strong. Her Family is heart broken that they have lost their special member of the family but is thankful for the 9 extra years they were able to have such a special K9 to love. Rest In Peace Scooby Doo we will miss so very much.

Now you join a huge SAR team in the most wonderful place called Heaven! Ed Martin, Kevin Kocher, Maggie Mae, Rufus, Hobbes, Lily(your sister) and Piston. RIP Scooby girl!

Hello Everyone!

We hope you guys are having a great spring! It’s been awhile since the hounds have been on the move because of Covid.

But we are coming back out for training you will see us at different local places to get our pups back as a group.

Also, we usually partner with Hanover County Animal Control once a year for a rabies clinic the first of February at Station 14 East Hanover Rescue Squad. Unfortunately, the county closed the building to the public to keep our first responders safe to help the county. So, with that said Mark your calendars for 2/22. The county does three rabies clinics and 2 out of 3 were cancelled.
It’s very important to have your animals vaccinated.

So we love seeing our friends every year!

See you at our next clinic 2/2022! Please feel free to text us with any questions! Email [email protected]!

Can’t wait to see you there and remember if you see us training stop and say hi!

Our dogs are ready to go!
