THE JOURNEY BEGINS! As kindergarten enrollment continues, we're sharing the voices of families who have already taken this exciting first step! Several current kindergarten parents are sharing their experiences and reflections as their children began their journey in HCPS. From new friendships to big milestones, these stories offer a glimpse into the moments that make kindergarten such a special year. Next up is Amanda Haley, a kindergarten parent at Pole Green Elementary School!

What has been the best part of your child's kindergarten experience?

"Caring administrators"

What positive changes have you noticed in your child since starting kindergarten?

"When our son first started kindergarten, he experienced tremendous anxiety. The administration quickly worked with us on a plan to help him, and now he looks forward to going to school, seeing it as a safe extension of his support system at home."

What would you tell a new kindergarten parent?

"Some kids do not react the way you would expect your hope. Do not be afraid to share what you know about what works for your child. While some daycare experiences have been great for our family, I found incredible professionalism, competence and commitment in the elementary school setting I’d not seen before. My experience has been both their level of investment and resources to help your family thrive are reflective of the long-term commitment to your child that comes from being a part of the public education system."

Welcome Wednesday! This week we welcome Ms. Wedlock who will be teaching PK at PGES next year.

Hi everyone! I was born in Lynchburg, Virginia and received my BA and MEd from George Mason University. I taught 2nd grade in Fairfax County before moving to Mechanicsville, where I taught Junior Kindergarten at New Hanover Christian School. Since moving to Hanover County, I have had the pleasure of working at Henry Clay, Laurel Meadow, Elmont, and Mechanicsville. I have two daughters, beginning 7th and 10th Grade this year and a Berne doodle named Murphy who keep me very busy. In my free time, I am either running, taking a dance class, or at the Y. I am so excited to start a new chapter in my life by joining the Pole Green family!
