Being a Composite Squadron means that we have programs for both cadets (ages 12 to 18) and adults (18+) who are interested in aviation, community service, and emergency services such as search and rescue.

On August 22nd Hanover composite Squadron’s cadets engaged in a character development forum on teamwork led by 2nd Lt. Jessica Carneal. The forum culminated in a challenging teambuilding exercise wherein teams of cadets attempted to build pyramids out of cups without being able to touch the cups.

The meeting concluded with a change of command ceremony, during which Cadet Maj. Nicholas Klapper took command of the cadet squadron. Klapper is preceded by Cadet Capt. Joseph Hartley.

During Hanover Composite Squadron’s monthly promotion and award ceremony on Thursday, August 22, twelve squadron members were recognized for achievement during the month of August.

The following members were promoted:

· Cadet Wolf Grannis – promoted to Cadet Airman.
· Cadet Cameron Davis – promoted to Cadet Staff Sgt.
· Cadet Kenneth Anderson – promoted to Cadet Master Sgt.

The following members received awards:

· Achievement Award – presented to Tech. Sgt. Tina Klapper, Cadet Maj. Nicholas Klapper, Cadet 1st Lt. Sidney Lyga, Cadet 2nd Lt. Steven Ball, and Cadet Tech. Sgt. Aiden Hudson by the Virginia Wing Command Chief, Chief Master Sgt. Eric Griffin, for outstanding duty performance.
· Level 1, Achievement Award- presented to SM Jodi Anderson-Jones
· Certificate of First Flight – presented to Cadet Airman Andrew Biffel
· Ground Team Badge – presented to Cadet Maj. Nicholas Klapper.
· First Aid and CPR certificates – presented to Tech. Sgt. Tina Klapper, Cadet Maj. Nicholas Klapper, Cadet Tech. Sgt. Aiden Hudson, and Cadet Airman Cooper Irwin.
· Wright Brothers Award – presented to Cadet Staff Sgt. Cameron Davis by Group 4 Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Michael Crognale.
· Brig. Gen. Billy Mitchell Award – presented to Cadet 2nd Lt. Thomas Mondy by Group 4 Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Michael Crognale.

On December 14, 2024, Hanover Composite Squadron will be helping to Remember and Honor our veterans by laying Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes at Cold Harbor National Cemetery in Mechanicsville, VA. Please help us honor and remember as many fallen heroes as possible by sponsoring remembrance wreaths, volunteering on Wreath Day, or inviting your family and friends to attend/sponsor with you.

Only a little over a week away!!

Come and see us at our Hanover Composite Squadron’s Open House next Thursday August 29th from 6:30-9:00pm.

We will have stations set up to explore such as:

Aerospace: flight simulator, display rockets & drones

Emergency Services: ground teams survival items, first aid, radios

Color Guard: flags and parade rifles

Senior members: 18 and older membership opportunities

On August 8th Hanover Composite Squadron had their aerospace night. During this meeting the cadets were introduced to the Model Rocketry Program through an engaging course by Captain Miranda. During the meeting the cadets helped inventory and organize the squadrons rocketry supplies to prepare for the first steps towards earning their rocketry patches. After the aerospace class the cadet NCOs worked on their leadership skills by leading the airman in practice of proper drill.

On August 3rd, Hanover Composite Squadron conducted First Aid,CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training, instructed by 2nd Lt. William Walter. Five Hanover CAP members completed the training and were certified by the National Safety Council in these critical lifesaving skills.

On July 26th, Hanover Composite Squadron members traveled to the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Va. to provide ceremonial support for the retirement of a senior military officer. A cadet honor guard consisting of Cadet Maj. Nicholas Klapper, Cadet 1st Lt. Sidney Lyga, Cadet 2nd Lt. Steven Ball, and Cadet Tech. Sgt. Aiden Hudson, accompanied by Capt. Travis Owens, Chief Master Sgt. Eric Griffin, and Tech. Sgt. Tina Klapper, performed a flag folding ceremony to honor U.S. Air Force Col. Neil Whelden’s retirement following 24 years of service. While there, the Hanover team also toured the National Museum of the U.S. Marine Corps, and each cadet was presented a personal challenge coin for their outstanding performance by the commander of the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations, Brig. Gen. Amy S. Bumgarner.

On Thursday, July 25th, Civil Air Patrol’s Hanover Composite Squadron recognized over two dozen members for achievement during the month of July.

The following members were promoted:

⁃ Cadet Stephanie Anderson to Cadet Airmen 1st Class.
⁃ Cadet Noah Carneal to Cadet Chief Master Sgt.
⁃ Cadet Nicholas Klapper to Cadet Maj.

The following members received awards:

⁃ Cadet 2nd Lt. Steven Ball received the Cadet Recruiting Ribbon.
⁃ 2nd Lt. J. Carneal, 2nd Lt. W. Walter, 1st Lt. Boler, and Cadets Ball, G. Carneal, N. Carneal, Dyson, and N. Klapper received certificates and patches from NASA for their participation in the April 2024 NASA Solar Eclipse Mission.
⁃ Tech. Sgt. T. Klapper, 2nd Lt. J. Carneal, and Cadets K. Anderson, G. Carneal, N. Carneal, Hartley, Hudson, N. Klapper, H. Lyga, S. Lyga, Stevens, and Zubris received certificates for completing the 2024 Virginia Wing Encampment.
⁃ Senior Member Christopher Ryker was awarded the Membership Award for completing Level 1 of the Senior Member Education & Training Program.
⁃ 2nd Lt. Cory Walter received the Volunteer University Instructor badge.
⁃ Cadet 2nd Lt. Steven Ball was presented the Brig. Gen. Billy Mitchell Award by Lt. Col. Michael Crognale, VAWG Group IV Deputy Commander.

On Thursday, July 18, Hanover Composite Squadron cadets performed the cadet physical fitness test and drill training. Two cadets successfully passed their Achievement 2 drill test, resulting in one cadet being promoted to cadet airman 1st class!
