Whooo said it is too late to join the challenge? 🦉

The I Bird NY Challenge is still ongoing until November 1st, 2026! To participate, you just need to log 10 birds that are from the state of New York! This would be a fun challenge for little ones while going on a walk and a harder challenge for adults to identify the birds!

Go online to https://dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/birding/i-bird-ny or you can mail the paper that we have readily available at the library!

The Mechanicville District Public Library joins communities worldwide in mourning the heartbreaking loss of Dolly Parton, a legendary icon and a tireless champion for childhood literacy.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to the one and only Dolly Parton. While the world knew her as the Queen of Country, we at the library knew her as a true hero of the written word.

Through her extraordinary Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Dolly gifted over 300 million free books to children around the globe. She ensured that kids from birth to age five found the magic of reading right in their own mailboxes. Why Her Legacy Matters Local Impact: Right here in Saratoga County, 41% of eligible children are enrolled in her program and receiving books. Inspiring Young Readers: Her books helped children fall in love with stories before they even started school. Supporting Libraries: She championed the joy of reading with unmatched generosity and grace. Honoring Family: The entire movement started as a loving tribute to her illiterate father, proving that reading can change a life.

Rest in peace, Book Lady. Your sparkle and your love for libraries will live on in every page turned.
