Tonight's the night! We hope to see you there!

Medfield Annual Town Meeting is Monday, May 4th beginning at 7:00 PM in the Medfield High School Gymnasium. The meeting will run until all 38 articles have been considered.

Town Meeting is convened annually to adopt an operating budget and to consider other matters such as zoning changes, town purchases, by-law additions and amendments. The business of each Town Meeting is contained in a document known as “the warrant,” which is mailed to all registered voters. The 2026 report was mailed in April. The costs to operate the Medfield Public Schools are increasing faster than the revenue available to support them. This “structural deficit” is similar to the fiscal challenges facing other school districts throughout Massachusetts.

The growing budget gap is due in large part to several major expenses that have been increasing at significantly higher rates than the overall budget:
⬆️ Staff salaries (contractual obligations in collective bargaining agreements with union employees)
⬆️ Student transportation (in-district and out-of-district)
⬆️ Utilities (gas, electricity, telephone, water, sewer)

04/29/2026

The final budget allocation for the 2026-2027 school year will be determined by the outcome of the override votes at Town Meeting (Monday, May 4) and the Special Election (Monday, June 8).

1️⃣ $46.22 million: The budget request approved by the Medfield School Committee earlier this month assumes a 3.64% increase over the current school year budget. It includes a limited number of reductions to offset rising costs. This budget will be adopted only if the override is approved.

2️⃣ $44.50 million: This budget represents an increase over this year of only 1.8%. If the override is defeated, the School Committee will have to revise the budget request with additional reductions in teaching positions, increasing class sizes district-wide, and other potential programmatic impacts.
