The Digital Design Studio (DDS) is a self-service creative space for the production of digital class projects and the exploration of digital media.

The DDS can help you get started with data graphics, digital stories, poster making, and video projects.

This workshop taught by our student Digital Media Assistants will explore basic photography skills using the Photography Kit available for checkout from Tisch Library!

We will cover basic media management, composition strategies and basic editing techniques. We hope by the end of this workshop you will feel empowered to check out media equipment and know more about resources available to support you during your next project.

Sound is evocative. Sound includes voices and words, emotive notes and music, animal calls and the environment. By working with existing sound recordings, creating meaning through layers, contrasts, repetition, we can say something of our own in immersive and connected ways. This workshop will explore sound art, giving participants a chance to make something of their own.

To start the exploration, Kylie Burnham (she/they), Digital Media Specialist at Tisch Library, will share a selection of her sound works related to q***r identity and gender, highlighting the use of archival interviews and and other found sound. Afterwards, she will guide participants through a brief tutorial and finding sounds in databases and assembling them in Audacity. The workshop will conclude with ample time to play around and make something, while surrounded by expert support from the Digital Design Studio!

This workshop will take place in the Digital Design Studio (DDS), on the top floor of Tisch Library in Tisch 303. The DDS is accessible from the elevator.

Monday App spotlight: ✨The apple based applications for video editing are typically considered a more intuitive alternative to the Adobe Suite based software such as Premiere Pro. The three applications are available on the DDS iMacs and enable a professional flow and approach to video editing tailored for the computers.

Did you know that you can BORROW media equipment from the circulation desk at Tisch Library? These equipments will resume circulation on May 25! Check it out during the summer 🌞

1 and 2. Photography Kit and Video Recording Kit
Both have the Sony a6600 camera with a 18-135mm lens! The video recording kit comes with a microphone and a windscreen as well.

3 and 4. Reflector Disk Kit and Lighting Kit
These are good for both outdoor recording or to enhance studio recording! Would be great to use if you are making short films or conducting interviews too.

5 and 6. Lavalier Microphone Kit and Tripod Kit
The Lavalier microphone kit comes with 2 BY-M1 lavalier microphones and the Tripod Kit comes with the Manfrotto Befree Live portable tripod and its carrying case.

7 and 8. USB Microphone Kit and Smartphone Recording Kit
The USB Microphone Kit comes with 2 Rode NT-USB mini microphones. For the Smartphone Recording Kit, you can request an Android or an iPhone Kit, and it comes with either the Zoom Am7 for Android (USB-C connector) or the Zoom iQ7 for iPhone (lightening connector) with windscreen.

9. Audio Recording Kit
This kit comes with a Zoom H5n and two microphones! One is good for picking up background audio, and the other is good for isolating specific sounds and reducing background noise. Comes with windscreens as well!

To borrow these items, you would need to read and agree to the policy form, which could be found on the Tisch Library website.
