Charity isn’t only about giving money.
It’s giving time. A meal. A ride. A listening ear. A safe place. A second chance. A hand when someone needs one.
At Family Nurturing Center, we get to see every day what happens when a community chooses to care for one another.
We see it in volunteers who show up. Donors who quietly give. Businesses and community partners who say, “Yes, we can help.” Staff who pour their hearts into families. And parents who work incredibly hard to build something better for their children.
On International Day of Charity, we simply want to say thank you. 🧡
For 20 years, this community has made it possible for FNC to walk alongside children and families through some of their hardest days—and celebrate so many of their best ones, too.

We’re proud to partner with The Doula Cooperative, where families receive something incredibly valuable during pregnancy, birth, and those first weeks after baby arrives: a familiar, trusted person by their side.
Continuity matters. Your doula gets to know you—your hopes, your questions, your preferences, your family, and your story. That relationship carries from prenatal visits through birth and into postpartum support.
No starting over. No retelling your story at every stage. Just someone who knows you, shows up for you, and walks alongside you through one of life’s biggest transitions.
This is the kind of care we believe in: relationship-based, family-centered, and rooted in connection.
We’re so grateful for the incredible doulas of The Doula Cooperative and the care they bring to families in our community. 🌿🧡

From Unhoused to Home 💛

Sometimes the impact of this work happens remarkably fast.

Recently, one of our Housing Navigators began working with a parent who, shortly after entering services, became unhoused. Together, they worked through barriers, secured rental assistance, connected with a landlord willing to give the family an opportunity, and found a home with a year-long lease.

At a recent court hearing, the judge paused to recognize just how much had changed in such a short period of time—from entering shelter without a home to returning to court with stable housing and a lease in hand.

But the best part came next.

One child was able to return home that day, with the remaining children beginning their transition home as well.

This parent did the hard work. Our staff member walked alongside them—helping navigate systems, opening doors, problem-solving when barriers appeared, and continuing to believe that stability was possible.

Housing can be so much more than an address. Sometimes, it is the foundation that helps bring a family back together.

To the staff across FNC who do this work every day: this is what your work makes possible. 💛

Monday Moment: Resilience Is Built in Community

Twenty years of working with children and families has taught me something I wish everyone understood:

Children don’t grow up in programs. They grow up in communities.

They grow up in neighborhoods where someone can smile at their mom in the grocery store instead of judging her.

In schools where teachers see potential before problems.

In doctors’ offices where families are treated with dignity.

They grow up in childcare centers, parks, libraries, recovery meetings, workplaces, churches, and homes.

And in all of those places, every interaction matters.

We often talk about resilience as though it is something a child or parent either has or doesn’t have. After twenty years, I see it differently.

Resilience grows through connection.

It grows when a struggling parent encounters encouragement instead of criticism.

When someone offers help without shame.

When a teacher notices what is going right.

When a neighbor checks in.

When a recovery mentor says, “Keep going.”

When a family knows there are people who will stand beside them during the hardest moments of their lives.

That kind of support matters. Parents breathe a little easier. Stress begins to soften. Children feel safer. And healing has room to grow.

One of the things I’m most proud of after twenty years is not simply what Family Nurturing Center has accomplished. It’s being part of a community that cares deeply about children and families.

I have watched teachers, healthcare providers, family coaches, recovery mentors, childcare professionals, volunteers, neighbors, nonprofit partners, and so many others quietly change the trajectory of families’ lives.

The transformations I’ve witnessed rarely happened because of one program or one person.

They happened because a community chose to care.

That, to me, is community resilience: creating enough connection around families that no one has to carry life’s hardest moments alone.

A community where families are supported.
Where children are safe.
Where people are treated with dignity.
And where every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive.

That’s the kind of community I’m proud to call home.

Millions of children started home libraries because of Dolly Parton’s commitment to early literacy.

For more than three decades, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has mailed books directly to young children around the world — creating more opportunities for reading, connection, and learning.

Today, we remember and honor Dolly for a lifetime of advocacy and for the generations of young readers her vision will continue to inspire. In her words, “You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children.” We couldn't agree more. 📚❤️‍🩹

🍕 FNC Family Fun Friday: Open a Family Restaurant! 👩‍🍳🧑‍🍳

Tonight, the kitchen isn't just the kitchen…it's your family's newest restaurant!

You don't need a special meal or extra groceries. Whatever you're already making for dinner works. The fun is letting the kids help turn an ordinary meal into an experience.

Give everyone a job:

🍽️ Name the restaurant — silly names encouraged!
🖍️ Make a menu — younger kids can draw pictures of the food
👩‍🍳 Help prepare dinner — washing, stirring, measuring or setting out ingredients
🥄 Set the table — let the kids decide how to make it "fancy"
🎵 Choose the restaurant music
🧑‍💼 Be the server — taking everyone's order is half the fun!
⭐ Give the restaurant a review after dinner

You could even make place cards, dress up for dinner, light a battery-operated candle, or have everyone use their best restaurant manners. 😊

And underneath all that silliness, kids are practicing creativity, communication, math, teamwork, responsibility and decision-making—while spending time with the people they love.

The best part? You're turning something your family already has to do into a memory together. 💛

💛 A Summer Shout-Out to Some Amazing Young Volunteers! 💛

Some of the best helpers at FNC this summer came with a little extra youthful energy!

We were fortunate to have teens spend time volunteering with us—organizing diapers, sorting clothing for our Family Clothing Closet, putting together training materials, and helping with all those behind-the-scenes projects that keep FNC running.

Every box organized, every stack of clothing sorted, and every packet assembled means our staff can spend more time focused on children and families. Those seemingly small jobs really do make a difference.

A special thank you to Teddy and Sammy for giving some of their summer to FNC. We loved having you here and appreciate your willingness to jump in wherever help was needed! 💛 You made a difference! 🌻
