Congratulations to Youth Services Librarian Maddi on a successful presentation at the 2026 Massachusetts Library Association conference. Alongside similar programs developed in Somerville and Wakefield, the Medford Public Library guides kids and tweens through the process of writing, editing, and publishing their own original book. You can check out these books in our Children's Room just like the rest of our collection!

Whoa! We're a month away from kicking off summer reading at the Fairy Tale Ball! We can't wait to celebrate reading with everyone with games, sword fighting, scavenger hunt, and more. We are looking for teen volunteers to help us out during the event. If your teen is looking for a fun volunteer option, please share this with them! Throwback Thursday!

Birdseye view from Hillside looking down South Street.

From the back of the photo: “At a town meeting of July 15, 1889 the name of that part of South Street from the river to the Somerville line at the reservoir was changed to Winthrop Street.” … “At the right of the picture was the home of Edmund Siske, the one who took the original photograph (who was a milkman) and to the rear of that building the Wade button factory. The factory manufactured cloth covered buttons up to 1880 and then, for several years, about 1880-1885, the building was used for the manufacture of a rubber or gossamer cloth for raincoats.”

(Original photograph taken 1885. - This copy by E.B. Dennison, 29 Capen St., Medford, June 12, 1937. - From the Local History Collection at the Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library, Medford, Massachusetts.)
