Dear President Morell,
In its meeting on October 12, 2022, The Medford Human Rights Commission (HRC) reviewed the
minutes of the HRC meeting of October 12, 2020 where the Commission voted to endorse the principles
and goals of community control of police surveillance (by the City Council). This motion was passed
after presentations by legal council from the American Civil Liberties Union, and several members
(including two attorneys) of Medford People Power who also answered questions and concerns from
the various Commissioners.
The HRC then voted to reaffirm the 2020 vote of the HRC, and to urge all member of the Medford City
Council to support the current CCOPS ordinance that is under consideration by the Council. I am also
sending a copy of this communication to all members of the City Council and to Mayor Breanna Lung-
Koehn.
