We appreciate all the students and families who came out to Forest Springs for some outdoor education recently. The morning was packed with learning about bog ecology, exploring wildlife in the nearby stream, and enjoying activities like geocaching, canoeing, and archery. In the afternoon, everyone had a so much fun with free time activities such as mini golf, tower climbing, more archery, air ri**es, and a variety of games like tennis and gaga ball, along with some great conversations that helped us all connect better. Check out the great pics!

We are so proud to celebrate Noah Sackmann, RVA Teacher, for being chosen as the favorite teacher of Nathan M, #72 football player at SPASH and was honored on the field along with SPASH teachers during a football game last week! What a special way to recognize the impact a teacher can have on their students! This recognition is a wonderful reminder that even though our teachers are virtual, the relationships we build in the RVA truly matter. Congratulations Noah! We’re so happy to see you celebrated! 🎉

Be sure to check out the video! Noah is honored at 2:14.

Today we would love to highlight our "Science of the Trades" course, where we are studying Static Structures and Engineering. This includes understanding how structures are built, what keeps them strong, what holds the material together, and how we can build our own.

For the capstone project of this, we built our own bridges out of very light balsa wood and glue. On average, the bridges had a mass of 30-40 grams. They held nearly 17,000 grams! That is over 400 times its own weight!

We are holding an IN-PERSON event for this on Tuesday, November 10th at the Learning Center! We'll split it into middle schoolers and high schoolers (junior division & pro division)! We'll test the strength of each bridge built!
