Taunton Fire Company

Taunton Fire Company Serving Medford Township Since 1949. A war surplus Jeep provided the first protection for the company, and the organizationโ€™s charter was formalized in 1949.

After World War II, the population of our township again grew rapidly with new families settling into homes built along the edge of the pinelands and pine barrens south of the village area. In 1946, a group of residents south of Tuckerton Road organized as the Lakes Volunteer Fire Company (now Taunton Fire Company) to support and respond alongside Union Fire Company in the areas south and distant

from the historic area in the center of town. In 1973, Taunton Fire Company rebuilt their original firehouse into an expanded building that could house additional apparatus and within five years the Lakes Emergency Squad (now Medford EMS) as well. Taunton Fire Company has continued to grow and relocated from the Fairview Road station to a building on Gravelly Hollow Road to provide room for their expanding membership.

Our members are very excited to see all the renovations and improvements that Pineland Arts Center have made to our previous building! Hope to see you there!

Our building has a fascinating history!

Before it became the Pineland Arts Center, this building served as the home of the Taunton Fire Company and EMS Squad.

During our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony June 13th, we'll dedicate the original Fire Hose-Drying Tower in honor of the firefighters and EMS personnel who served our community from this location.

Be sure to stop inside our front entrance, look up, and see the 32-foot tower along with historic fire hoses and memorabilia on display!

And for the kids (and kids at heart), a real fire truck will be on-site to explore and interact with! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘

Pay attention to changing weather conditions if participating in outdoor activities this afternoon/evening.

Confidence is increasing in some severe thunderstorms moving through later today. The main threat is damaging wind gusts, with storms beginning to develop and move in after 2 PM. Make sure you have ways to receive any warnings! And when thunder roars, go indoors!

Little bit of operator training this morning with a focus on drafting! Drafting is utilizing a static water source and using the pump on the apparatus to draw the water into the pump. Kind of like a bigger drinking straw! This is one of our options for water supply where hydrants are not located. Interesting in learning more and possibly volunteering? Check out our linktree in the bio!

The Spring Forest Fire season started March 15th and runs through May 15th. Even though we had months of snow and ice covering the ground, most of the state is in an abnormally dry status. We are between an abnormally dry D0 and 1st stage drought D1. Additionally, with all the trees and branches that came down in recent months storms, it is important to clear your property of these to help keep wildfires from spreading to your home and property. It is very important in our wildland urban interface area to always keep your home and property fire safe.

๐Ÿšจ MOVE OVER AND SLOW DOWN โ€” IT'S THE LAW ๐Ÿšจ

New Jersey Statute 39:4-92.2 requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching authorized vehicles with emergency lights activated.

These vehicles include:
- Police
- Fire
- EMS
- Highway maintenance
- Tow trucks
- Official motorist aid vehicles displaying amber lights

Where possible, drivers are required to move over to create an empty lane next to the emergency vehicle. When safely changing lanes is not possible, drivers must slow down below the posted speed limit prior to passing emergency vehicles. Drivers should also be prepared to stop, if necessary.

Remember our officers work just feet away from moving traffic. A simple lane change or slowing down can save a life.

Help protect those who protect you.
