The occupants advised that the fire started in the bathroom within the fan located in the ceiling, and they had already put water on the fire and isolated the breaker. E12 was able to extinguish the rest of the fire with a water can.

No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. Thanks to the actions of the occupants and E12's quick response, the damage was small and limited to where the fire started. The occupants were able to remain at their residence with minimal impact.

Bathroom exhaust fans account for a relatively small amount of structure fires, but they do happen. Here are a few ways you can minimize the risk of a bathroom exhaust fire in your residence.
โ–ช๏ธAvoid any buildup of dust or lint.
โ–ช๏ธReplace worn motor bearings.
โ–ช๏ธDon't leave fans running too long.
โ–ช๏ธDo not use units with faulty wiring and replace older fans that don't have thermal protection.
โ–ช๏ธAlways report smoke and fires to 911 immediately.

Thank you to our mutual aid partners and Medford Police for their assistance on this incident!

Fire season started strong with the Blackwell Fire, which broke out during Memorial Dayโ€™s windy afternoon. We joined the valley-wide response and provided mutual aid to Jackson County Fire District 3. Weโ€™re incredibly grateful for the strong partnerships across our region!

This significant fire early in the season is a good reminder to stay vigilant with fire danger and make sure you're prepared.

This week, crews had their annual refresher training on the equipment and tactics we use on wildland responses. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

They reviewed how to perform a mobile attack (pump and roll), efficiently use pondosa packs, draft water supply, and deploy fire shelters.

Crews are dialed in and ready for fire season!

On Saturday, we partnered with the Red Cross Cascades Region and a bunch of awesome volunteers to install smoke alarms in local homes! ๐Ÿก

18 alarms were installed in five homes, making 11 people safer. This event also raised awareness about home fire safety and prevention.

๐Ÿ›Ž๏ธRemember to test your smoke alarms regularly and replace them if they're 10 years old. Consider purchasing a dual-purpose smoke and carbon monoxide alarm if you have carbon monoxide producing equipment or attached garage as part of your home.

While winter and spring rains are on track for a slightly below normal water year, snowpack is minimal, and drought conditions are contributing to dry vegetation and an increased risk for fires to start and spread earlier in the year.

With the seasonโ€™s start come important restrictions:
๐ŸšซNo debris burning or burn barrels
๐ŸšซNo fireworks on or near ODF-protected land
๐ŸšซNo exploding targets or tracer ammo
โœ…Campfires OK in designated areas or with landowner permission
โœ…Portable stoves allowed in cleared areas
โœ…Barbecues and smokers OK at residential homes when used in cleared areas
๐ŸšญSmoking restricted to enclosed vehicles, boats, or designated areas
โšก๏ธElectric fences must meet fire safety standards

Please stay alert and follow regulations to keep our community safe!
