Finally, clarification on AI misinformation and Social Media manipulation by Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico.

Social Media Manipulation in the Era of AI

There is no change of zone pending for an AI data center on Thursday, May 28th. In fact, there is no pending application in all of the town as of the time of this post. The flyer, which has spread such misinformation, is unfortunate, somewhat ironic because it was created with AI, but not surprising in the time in which we live.

Furthermore, the AI-generated reports about Brookhaven National Lab (BNL) are also incorrect, but spread so much that BNL is working on a statement to give people the facts, which are the following. The Department of Energy (DOE) put out a call for a potential project over a year ago. BNL was one of the possible locations of among the 16 considered by the federal government. Four locations were chosen by the DOE which had nuclear power capabilities. BNL was obviously not chosen and has no pending plans for any data center.

Back to the flyer, the pending change of zone referenced, which I believe the people who made the flyer are referring to, is with regard to the Northpoint application. Adding more irony to the situation is that the Town of Brookhaven tried for years to have rail service to this location, which was blocked partially by the efforts of the very folks who put together this flyer. So now, regardless of whether the change of zone on the small portion of the property is granted or denied, this property will be serviced by trucks rather than rail, which is more economical, efficient and environmentally friendly for our region. Nevertheless, there is no data center proposed at this location referenced on the flyer.

It is true that an AI data center entity is working with the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and the New York State Independent Operator (NYISO) on the power needs for a potential application for data center use on the north side of NYS 495 in the warehouses owned by Wildflower. However, nothing has been submitted to the Town of Brookhaven, and if and when a submission is made, it will be met with serious scrutiny, and an immediate positive declaration will be sought under New York State's SEQRA which would include robust public input. Such an application may even need a change of zone from the town board, which is a legislative act that the board can elect not to even consider. However, all of this is theoretical because nothing has been filed with the town as of the date of this post.

I encourage residents to contact their elected representatives for the facts about this and any land use application at all. Social media is unfortunately becoming extremely unreliable for truth on these matters and much more. I also welcome residents to come to town hall on Thursday or at any meeting to hear the truth on these issues. My personal view on the potential issues and dangers of such data centers was submitted to Newsday almost two weeks ago as a guest essay. I hope they will soon publish it and I will share it in a separate post if and when they do.

This Memorial Day, we solemnly honor the brave American heroes who gave their lives defending our nation, our Constitution, and the freedoms that make the United States the greatest country in the world.

Their courage and sacrifice secured the liberties we cherish and protected the American way of life for future generations.
As we gather with family and friends this weekend, may we never forget the price paid by those who answered the call of duty and made the ultimate sacrifice for God and Country.

Today, we proudly remember our fallen heroes, honor their legacy, and stand united in gratitude for their service to this great nation.

May God Bless Our Gold Star Families, Our Armed Forces, and the United States of America.

Violence and political hatred have no place in the United States of America. We are one nation under God, and while we may passionately disagree on policy and politics, those differences must always be resolved at the ballot box — never through violence, intimidation, extemism, or assassination.

The growing anger and division in our country inflamed by extremism and foreign adversaries is deeply concerning. America’s enduring strength comes from our unity, our Constitution, and our commitment to the American Exceptionalism. United as a Nation, we stand. Divided, we shall fall. It is up to every American — regardless of political party or ideology — to reject extremism and recommit ourselves to civility, respect, and the democratic principles that bind us together as one people.

The Suffolk County and Brookhaven Town Republican Committees thank the brave men and women of the United States Secret Service and the United States Capitol Police who stand watch every day to protect our nation, our leaders, and the seat of the Great American Experiment. Their courage, professionalism, and sacrifice help safeguard our Republic during uncertain times.

May God continue to bless and protect the United States of America. 🇺🇸

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, let us also remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and our freedoms.

Please celebrate responsibly. The decision to drive drunk or impaired can permanently change your life, the lives of your loved ones, and the innocent people sharing the road with you.

We also extend our gratitude to the members of law enforcement, first responders, medical personnel, and all those working throughout the holiday weekend to help keep our communities safe.

Be safe. Be smart. Drive sober.

Long Islanders and all New Yorkers are watching a dangerous pattern unfold in Albany. First came disastrous bail reform. Now extreme Albany Democrats are pushing legislation that could eliminate Life Without Parole for the most violent criminals — including serial killers and cop killers.

We stand with victims. We stand with their families. And we stand with Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney for sounding the alarm before it’s too late, in an in-depth op-ed piece heralded by the New York Post today.

This is a BRIGHT RED warning signal to every common-sense New Yorker: All Democrats – in Albany, Washington, and locally – support and are preparing to release violent criminals back into our streets while forcing victims’ families to relive unimaginable trauma again and again through endless parole hearings.

See for yourself. Click Here:

Enough. Law and order matters. Public safety matters. Victims matter.

As DA Tierney stated: These reckless policies must be STOPPED NOW — and stopped at the ballot box!

Remarks on the DOJ Indictment of Cuban Strongman Raul Castro
_________________

“As the proud son of a Cuban immigrant — I applaud the actions taken by the United States Department of Justice in indicting Raúl Castro.

“My father, Jesus, defected from Fidel Castro’s Cuba in the 1960’s. Like millions of other Cubans, he came to America seeking the freedoms, liberties, and opportunities that only the United States can provide. He escaped a regime built on oppression, fear, and failed communist ideology.

“Cubans are a people of faith, family, hard work, and extraordinary entrepreneurship. Yet for decades, the Castro regime crushed opportunity, silenced dissent, and destroyed the hopes and dreams of generations of Cuban families.

“Today, just 90 miles off America’s shores, communism and socialism continue to fail in real time. The suffering of the Cuban people stands as a warning to the world about the devastating consequences of authoritarian socialist policies.

“It is time for Castro, communism, and socialism to go.

As an American of Cuban descent and Chairman of both the Suffolk County Republican Committee and the Brookhaven Town Republican Committee, I commend President Donald Trump and all those pursuing accountability and justice for the victims of the Castro regime. The Cuban people deserve freedom, democracy, and the chance to build a future free from tyranny.”

Suffolk County GOP and Brookhaven GOP Chairman Jesse Garcia condemns today’s horrific shooting at the Islamic center in San Diego.

“There is no place for hate anywhere in our nation.

“Once again, we are witnessing the deadly consequences of hatred and ignorance in our country. Today’s murders inside a mosque cannot be overlooked or forgotten.

“We stand as one community during this painful time and pray for the victims, their families, and all those impacted by this senseless act of violence.

“As County Executive Ed Romaine stated, in Suffolk County, the SCPD will remain vigilant in protecting all houses of worship and ensuring the safety of every community.

“Hate must never win.”

Kathy Hochul: Failed Leadership
_________________

Today, because of Kathy Hochul’s failed leadership, our roads are even more congested, commuters abandoned, and LIRR trains are sitting idle. Hardworking New Yorkers are paying the price for another Albany Democrat-made disaster.

Failure of Leadership: Governor Kathy Hochul

While middle-class families struggle to get to work, Kathy Hochul continues prioritizing failed socialist policies, reckless spending, and benefits for criminal illegal migrants over the needs of taxpaying New Yorkers.

Now, Long Islanders and suburban commuters are being hit from every direction — abandoned by Hochul and the Democrats during the MTA/LIRR strike while also being fleeced by congestion pricing just to get into New York City to earn a living.

Governor Hochul controls the MTA. She should stop hiding, get her people to the negotiating table, and get a deal done.

And Hochul must END congestion pricing now, which has only forced even more cars onto already overcrowded roads and city streets.

New Yorkers deserve leadership that fights for working families — not policies that punish them.
