The Officers and Members of the South Media Fire Company No. 1 are saddened to learn of the sudden passing of former member Brett Day, pictured here with Matthew Poissant, President Robert Hopkins, and Chief Max Hopkins. Brett joined South Media as a Junior Member in 1988, and advanced to a Senior Firefighter in 1990. He was active throughout the ‘90s and is fondly remembered for his dedication, humor, and friendship. He is gone too soon, and we hope you will join us in keeping his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Yesterday, the South Media Fire Company was dispatched along with EMS from Media Fire Hook and Ladder #1 - Station 23 to a reported cardiac arrest. Utility 51 - with Firefighters Gill, Williams, and Firefighter/EMT Santisi on board - was out on a routine refueling run and happened to be in the location of the call when it was dispatched.

The three members made the response and were the first-arriving unit. They found an unresponsive patient and immediately began CPR. The three members continued performing CPR until the arrival of EMS and additional South Media personnel and beyond. All told, the members performed CPR for 25 minutes until the patient’s pulse returned and was transported to the hospital.

Every year we train on CPR, hoping that we will never need to use it. The three members who utilized this training played a key role in this patient’s survival. The company is proud of them for doing a hard job in a most professional manner. They are all a credit to the organization and the Officers and Leaders want them to know it publicly.
