Delaware County Community Traffic Safety Project

Delaware County Community Traffic Safety Project The Delaware County Community Traffic Safety Project (DCCTSP) is a public information and awareness campaign.

The Delaware County Transportation Management Association (DCTMA) houses the Delaware County Community Traffic Safety Project (DCCTSP). This is a public information and awareness campaign and we have delivered over 275 free safety programs throughout the County over the past 2 years- reaching over 38,000 residents. This project focuses on:
• Safe and proper use of safety belts and child safety se

ats
• Teaching of proper pedestrian behaviors
• Education on the dangers of driving under the influence
• Outreach to teens about safe driving behaviors
• Motorcycle safety
• Bicycle safety
• General safe driving
• Aggressive driving
• Older driver safety
• School bus safety

The primary goal of the project is to decrease the number of avoidable deaths and/or injuries associated with traffic-related crashes and reduce the severity of any injuries which do occur. This goal is achieved through educating the public and increasing awareness about these important safety focus areas. The DCCTSP will be available for the following:
• School programs
• Day care presentations
• Child safety seat inspection stations
• Special events and health fairs
• Business and community programs
• Distribution of educational materials relating to all safety focus areas

Contact Lauren Amway Fink, Project Coordinator, at 610-892-0898 for any questions or to schedule programs.

When you hear a siren or see a vehicle approaching from any direction with flashing red lights or a combination of red and blue lights, you must:

• Pull over to the curb or side of the road and stop.
• Drive parallel and as near to the curb as possible. On one-way streets, drive toward the nearest roadside and stop.
• Stay clear of intersections.
• Start driving again after the emergency vehicle passes you, keeping at least 500 feet away from it.
• Make sure another emergency vehicle is not coming.

In every state, it’s illegal to pass a school bus when the stop-arm is extended and the red lights are flashing. 🚍🚨 The most dangerous part of the school bus ride is getting on and off, especially in winter weather! Snow and ice make roads more slippery, making it even more important to stay alert. When drivers ignore stop arms and flashing red lights, they put kids at risk. Let’s look out for each other and always stop for school buses! 🚌❄️

Yellow lights on a school bus indicate the bus is preparing to stop.

If you’re driving, slow down, stay alert, and watch out for children.

🚗👶 It’s National Child Passenger Safety Week!
Let’s kick things off with an important tip: Car seats should not be used on golf carts or low-speed vehicles (LSVs).
According to the Manufacturers Alliance for Child Passenger Safety (MACPS), child restraints are designed for use in standard passenger cars and multipurpose vehicles—not alternative vehicles like golf carts. Using them outside of these approved settings may not protect your child as intended.
✅ Here are 5 quick safety tips for kids on golf carts:
🧒 Wait until kids are at least 6 years old before allowing them to ride.
📏 Follow state and local laws—kids under 12 must be properly restrained.
🚦 Only allow licensed drivers to operate the cart.
❌ Never drive with a child on your lap.
🔄 Take turns slowly—golf carts and LSVs can tip easily.
Let’s keep our little passengers safe—on and off the road! 💛

It may often look like a winter wonderland, but make sure to use extra caution when walking in these conditions. Layer up, have safe footwear on and find cleared areas to walk the doggies.
