Severe Weather Awareness Week is here in Iowa — the perfect time to make sure you and your family are prepared before storms hit. 🌩️

From thunderstorms and tornadoes to flash flooding, severe weather can happen quickly and with little warning. Take a few minutes this week to:
✔️ Review your emergency plan
✔️ Identify a safe shelter location
✔️ Check your weather alerts and batteries
✔️ Practice what to do during a tornado warning

🚨 Don’t forget: A statewide tornado drill will take place on Wednesday, March 25th at 10:00 AM. This is a great opportunity to practice your plan at home, work, or school.

We'd like to give a shout out to Jen Beschorner. Jen completed training with us today and will now serve as an Advanced EMT with the Yarmouth Fire Department. The Emergency Medical Responders at the Yarmouth Fire Department are affiliated with our ambulance service. They provide life saving interventions to stabilize patients until an ambulance arrives from Mediapolis, and Jen will be able to provide advanced level care alongside our crews. Through her Registered Nurse license, Jen is able hold an AEMT certification with just some in-house training. We are always working to expand our capabilities to provide the best support for our communities. Our dedicated volunteers work together with other departments in order to make that happen every day.

Congratulations to Amanda Evans on becoming our latest ALS provider! This morning Amanda took her National Advanced EMT exam and knocked it out of the park on her first try! The AEMT is a difficult exam, with a 1st time pass rate at only 58%. Amanda will be able to provide our patients with advanced level interventions, bridging the gap between our exceptional team of EMTs and Paramedics. Great job, Amanda!

Congratulations to our Service Director, Jason McLaughlin on passing his National Advanced EMT exam. As an AEMT, Jason will be able to provide advanced level skills such as IV fluids, IV pain medication, IV dextrose, 1st line cardiac and allergic reaction medications. I don't know how he found time. 2 months ago he was hired and began training for his new role as Service Director. Last month, he officially became the Service Director. And this month becomes an AEMT. Can't wait to see what he has in store next month! Awesome for him and for our community.
