48 hours later and our community cabinet (and our hearts) are full! This community is truly remarkable.

If you or someone you know is in need of food, toiletries, diapers, wipes, etc., stop in the library and fill a bag, no questions asked.

Also, we are still accepting donations!

Hi library friends! We've had so many questions and calls about Dolly in our area. We are aware that the United Way of Southeast Iowa has rolled out their program as of today, which is AWESOME!

All the Louisa County libraries, as well as Mediapolis and Winfield, are under the Friends of the Columbus Junction Library affiliate, which means you won't be able to register with United Way affiliate. Previously, Wapello had to make the decision to cut ties with Dolly's Imagination Library, UNTIL an anonymous donation continued their funding of the program through the middle of summer 2026, and no one with a Wapello address should have noticed any changes to their deliveries of books. Our affiliate has remained committed to fundraising for ALL our local kids to continue receiving books, and we've been doing just that, most recently with the coloring book fundraiser.

HOWEVER, with the addition of the United Way of Southeast Iowa's program, we are looking at how to partner with them for longer term sustainability. IF changes are made, we will make sure any child currently receiving books has a smooth transition. As always, our affiliate continues to approve children 0-5 living with their parent or guardian within the service area to receive books each month; there have never been any limits to the number of kids served by our affiliate.

🌟 Announcing Mepo Library's Community Cabinet! 🌟

We’re excited to introduce our Community Cabinet, a small space just inside the library doors where neighbors can share non-refrigerated food, diapers, vegetables, and other essentials.

πŸ’› Take what you need. Give what you can.

We’re just getting started and would love your help! Donations of canned goods, toiletries, diapers, and other shelf-stable items are welcome to help stock the cabinet for our community. We are also still accepting fresh produce, as long as it does not require refrigeration.

Let’s come together to support one another. Stop by the library and be part of the sharing!

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and with recent changes to SNAP benefits, the need to support local families in our community is greater than ever.

Our Middle School Student Lighthouse Team is sponsoring a food drive to help make a difference. We are collecting nonperishable food items to support the Des Moines County food pantries. Your generous donations will help ensure that local families have access to essential food during this critical time.

In speaking with local pantries, there is a particularly high need for soups, ramen noodles, boxed noodles/mac and cheese, crackers, breakfast items (pancake mix, syrup, cereal, granola bars) and of course any other non-perishable food items you are able to donate.

We will be collecting donated food items through Friday, November 7. Please have your student bring their donated food items to the main school office. Please consider contributing to this important cause.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to:
Erin Wolter, School Social Worker, 319-394-3101 - [email protected]

Thank you for your continued support of our school and our local families!
