The Highland Local School District serves over 3,300 students representing seven townships from across 78 square miles in northeast Medina County. We are comprised of five schools – three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Our students have access to the highest quality programs, a full complement of both curricular and extra-curricular offerings and an experienced instruct

ional staff – all of which are the envy of school districts across the State. Highland continues to be a leader in education where our vision, mission and goals have created both the foundation and framework that continues to promote a culture of high performance – academically, athletically and within all areas of the fine and performing arts. We offer a comprehensive PK-12 curriculum to meet individual needs, and our highly-qualified teaching staff works to develop the abilities of each child. This week, Highland students participated in the inaugural summer Artificial Intelligence (AI) camp, an in-person, project-based artificial intelligence program delivered by Inspirit AI, an AI education program developed and taught by Stanford and MIT alumni. Out of 60 teams that have competed on Academic Challenge this season, our Highland High School team placed third! This Saturday, June 6, at 11:30 a.m. on NewsChannel 5, Joey Gray, Nick Lutsock, and Caitlyn Thornton will compete against teams from Brecksville and Revere to see who will be named Academic Challenge season champions!! Make sure to tune in as we cheer on our Hornets!

The team also includes alternate Logan Yeager and is coached by HHS teachers Andrew Dutt and Tracy Goebel.

Highland - today, we close out our student spotlights with Nicolas Calanni! Nicolas graduated from Highland High School and from the Construction Trades program at Medina County Career Center last week! Through his program, he took full advantage of the opportunity for an apprenticeship in the carpenters' union. As a result of that opportunity, combined with his hard work and dedication to his trade, he has already been hired by Schirmer Construction. We are so proud of you, Nicolas, and wish you the best of everything!
