Today’s word is malversation.

Malversation (noun): Corrupt or dishonest conduct by a public official, especially involving public money.

Use it in a sentence: “The politician called it creative budgeting. The auditor called it malversation. The taxpayers called it Tuesday.”

There are plenty of words for what government does. Sometimes the problem is that nobody ever taught us what to call it.

That’s what this new Wednesday series is about: learning the language of government, politics, economics, and public accountability - because recognizing something gets a lot easier once you know its name.

Government is easier to hold accountable when you know what its behavior is called.

Learn the language. Question the system.

Property rights shouldn't come with an endless permission slip.

Some rules protect our neighbors from genuine harm. Others simply tell peaceful people what they may do with property they supposedly own.

That's a distinction worth questioning.

Your property. Your responsibility. Your freedom.

Every election:

“But you don't understand. Our terrible choice is better than their terrible choice.”

There is another option. 🗽

Liberty doesn't begin and end in Washington.

It matters when your township spends your money. When your city regulates your property. When your school board makes decisions for your family. When county officials decide how transparent government will be.

Some of the decisions that affect our freedom most are made right here at home.

Limited government starts locally.

You don’t have to agree with every Libertarian on every issue to recognize that Medina County needs another political voice.

If you believe government should be smaller, more transparent and more accountable—or you are simply tired of being told that your only choices are Republican and Democrat—we want to hear from you.

Public safety does not require giving government an unrestricted record of everyone’s movements.

Surveillance technology should never be treated as harmless simply because officials promise it will only be used responsibly. Data collection requires strict limits, short retention periods, public oversight and real consequences for misuse.

Your privacy does not disappear when you leave your driveway.

The November ballot is taking shape — and Medina County voters are going to be asked a lot of questions about taxes and spending.

The Board of Elections has now certified more than a dozen local issues for the November ballot, including proposals involving fire and EMS, police, schools, roads, cemeteries, municipal infrastructure and a new fire station.

Some are renewals. Some are increases. Some are entirely new taxes. Wadsworth even has separate fire and EMS proposals moving in different directions. York Township voters will consider a $5.05 million, 29-year bond issue for a fire station addition, while Wadsworth Schools is asking voters to approve an additional 1% income tax for five years.

Those distinctions matter.

A renewal isn't the same thing as an additional levy. An increase isn't the same thing as maintaining an existing tax. And a 29-year bond deserves a different conversation than a five-year operating levy.

We're not going to tell voters that every tax proposal is automatically justified — or that every one should automatically be rejected without examining the facts.

Over the coming weeks, we'll take a closer look at some of these ballot issues: what they're expected to collect, what they'll cost taxpayers, what the money will fund, what taxpayers are already providing, and what alternatives were considered.

Voters deserve more than a campaign slogan before deciding whether to reach deeper into their pockets.

Scrutiny isn't opposition. It's how taxpayers make informed decisions.

They disagree about who should control the credit card.

Libertarians are asking why government has an unlimited credit line in your name.

Two parties. One taxpayer credit card.

Credit where it’s due: Wadsworth considering ambulance remounts to save taxpayers roughly $50,000 is exactly the kind of cost-conscious decision local governments should be exploring.

The two fire and EMS levies headed to the November ballot deserve the same scrutiny. Before voters are asked to approve additional property taxes, they should have a clear accounting of what each levy will fund, why existing revenues are insufficient, how much it will cost homeowners, and what alternatives were considered.

Good public services and respect for taxpayers aren’t mutually exclusive. The numbers matter.

Wadsworth residents will see a couple of developments involving the city’s Fire Department in the coming months, including plans to replace two aging ambulances and two levies headed to the November ballot. As part of the city’s 2026 budget cycle, the Wadsworth Fire Department is looking to repl...
