Medical Director

Position Summary:
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) / Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) is responsible for providing emergency medical care to patients in pre-hospital settings and safely transporting them to the appropriate medical facility. EMTs and AEMTs will be the first responders to emergencies, providing immediate care to individuals who are critically ill or injured. This role involves responding to emergency calls, assessing patient conditions, administering medical treatments, and ensuring patient safety during transport.

Key Responsibilities:

Emergency Response and Patient Care:

Respond to emergency calls promptly and provide life-saving medical care to patients.

Assess the condition of patients at the scene of an emergency, including determining the extent of injuries or medical conditions.

Provide immediate care within the scope of practice (EMT or AEMT level) and transport patients to a medical facility as needed.

Administer treatments such as CPR, oxygen therapy, medications (for AEMTs), and other medical interventions as per protocols.

Ensure proper documentation of patient care and treatment provided during emergency response and transport.

Ambulance and Equipment Management:

Ensure ambulances and quick response units are stocked with necessary medical equipment, medications, and supplies.

Perform daily checks on equipment, medications, and vehicles to ensure they are in working order.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of ambulances and EMS facilities.

Compliance and Training:

Follow all County/Department policies and procedures, as well as medical protocols and guidelines.

Participate in daily and periodic training to maintain and improve skills and knowledge of current medical practices and procedures.

Participate in required continuing education to retain licensure and certifications.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

Work alongside full-time, part-time, and volunteer EMTs, AEMTs, and other healthcare providers in a team environment.

Communicate effectively with fellow emergency responders and medical staff to ensure optimal patient care and transport.

Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Public Relations and Community Interaction:

Interact positively with patients, families, and the public in potentially stressful or difficult situations.

Promote a positive image of Billings County EMS through professional conduct and courteous communication.

Other Duties:

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Billings County EMS.

Assist with public education programs, community outreach, or other departmental initiatives as needed.

Qualifications:

EMT Requirements:

National Registry EMT Certification

Valid ND State EMT License

Valid Driver’s License

Healthcare Provider CPR Certification

EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) certification (current or to be obtained within one year)

Limited Advanced Airway certification (current or to be obtained within one year)

Narcan Administration certification (current or to be obtained within one year)

AEMT Requirements:

National Registry AEMT Certification

Valid ND State AEMT License

Valid Driver’s License

Healthcare Provider CPR Certification

EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) certification (current or to be obtained within one year)

Limited Advanced Airway certification (current or to be obtained within one year)

Narcan Administration certification (current or to be obtained within one year)

Additional Qualifications (for both EMT and AEMT):

Ability to work in high-stress, emergency situations while maintaining composure and delivering high-quality care.

Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with patients, families, and colleagues professionally.

Ability to pass background checks and drug & alcohol testing.

Previous experience in emergency medical services is preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move patients (up to 150 lbs without assistance and more with assistance).

Ability to stand, walk, and kneel for extended periods during emergency responses and patient transport.

Ability to respond to emergencies in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and hazardous locations.

Some local residents are receiving some multi-layered SCAM calls. Calls start from Amazon and elevate to the US Marshals Service. Callers are telling people to stay on the line with them until they get what they want. In at least one incident, someone was asked to take a picture of their driver's license. Absentee applications have been mailed out to all active voters in Billings County. This means any resident who has voted in at least one of the last two general elections. If you have not received your absentee application and you would like one, you may request from the County Auditor's office at 701-623-4377 or [email protected] or go to www.vote.nd.gov and click on the link to request absentee. The ballot drop boxes are now open at the Fairfield Fire Hall as well as the Billings County Courthouse in Medora to save you postage. Applications and ballots may be returned to the Billings County Auditor's office until 7pm on Primary Election Day, June 9, 2026. The election boards will no longer be able to accept ballots postmarked before election but received after that day. If you are mailing your ballot back be sure to give it extra extra time so that your vote is counted. Should you have any questions or concerns, call us at 701-623-4377.
