ND GOP District 39

ND GOP District 39 North Dakota Legislative District 39 is 1 of 47 districts in the State of North Dakota. SW ND

Located in the far west portion of North Dakota, our district is bordered on the west by Montana and on the south by South Dakota, we are geographically the largest district in the state. According to to 2010 census, just over 14,000 people reside in the district and are represented by Republican Senator Dale Patten and Republican Representatives Denton Zubke and Keith Kempenich. District 39 is on

e of the most beautiful areas of the state.Prairie lands, badlands formations and the Theodore Roosevelt National Park are some of its many treasures. The landscape provides us with a rich agricultural baseand abundant oil and gas production. The heart of the world renown ‘Bakken formation’ of North Dakota lies within District 39. The rapid extraction of oil during the height of the most recent oil boom, led to dramatic increases in revenues in Western North Dakota, as well as creating a great need for enhanced infrastructure. As District 39 has a diverse economy, our representatives have a variety of issues to focus their energy and efforts. These efforts include continuing to support funding to build and improve infrastructure in our communities; working to promote an accommodating business atmosphere, particularly for oil and gas companies; providing the agriculture sector with the tools to achieve sustainable growth; and working to enhance communities and provide assistance with long term population increases. In addition, consistent with the National Republican Party platform, we believe in fair and simple taxes for growth; building the economy and creating jobs; supporting small business owners and the growth of our technology and energy sectors; reducing debt and using responsible spending principles; and of course protecting our constitutional rights as citizens of the United States.

Announcement from Representative Schatz

State Representative Mike Schatz has announced that he will be seeking re-election as Representative from District 39, which is the southwest corner of North Dakota. Rep Schatz has been in the legislature continuously since 2008 but had represented District 36 from 2008 to 2022.

Schatz, whose main occupations had been farmer/rancher, social studies teacher and head football coach, is currently retired and lives in New England with his wife of 49 years, Patti. The Schatzes have four children: Dr. Sarah - Jamestown, Nathan - New England, Amber - Bismarck, and Major Joshua USMC - San Diego.
Representative Schatz currently serves on the Industry, Business, & Labor, and Transportation Committees. He has been appointed to the Education and Nuclear Energy Committees for the interim. Schatz has served on Agriculture and Appropriations in the past.

A lifelong Republican, Mike Schatz has served as the state Executive Director for the party and has been involved in all elections since 1982. He served one term in the legislature in 1988 - 1990. He has also driven truck in the oil patch for a year and a half before his appointment as ED.

Some of his points of concern are campaign contribution reform, limiting the size and expenditures of government, improving the test scores of k-12, and emphasizing practical skills regarding Higher Education.
