Today was a full day of training and a good reminder of how strong partnerships make our communities safer.

A huge thank you to Billings County Sheriff's Office for inviting BCEMS to participate in active shooter training today. Trainings like this help all of our agencies work together, communicate better, and stay prepared for whatever comes our way.

After training, BCEMS joined BCSO, Billings County Rural Fire, and members from the National Park Service for tours of several local facilities, including the new hotel, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, and the Medora Musical.

Thank you to TRMF and TRPL for hosting us and taking the time to show us your facilities and the work being done.

We are grateful for the continued teamwork between all of our first responder agencies and community partners. Thank you to all first responders who serve our communities every day.

Monday of EMS Week 2026 is Education Day, and at Billings County EMS, education is something we take seriously every day of the year.

We’re fortunate to have a dedicated group of instructors who put in the time to teach and mentor others through CPR & First Aid, EVOC, TECC, EMR, EMT, AEMT, and continuing education courses. Their experience and willingness to share knowledge helps strengthen EMS not just in our service, but across our communities.

Our providers are committed to learning too. Along with local training, many regularly attend ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, PEPP, conferences, and other continuing education opportunities to keep their skills sharp and stay current in a field that’s always evolving.

Whether it’s teaching a community member how to perform CPR or spending extra hours in a classroom, education matters because it directly impacts the care we provide when people need us most.

Thank you to everyone who teaches, learns, and continues working to make EMS stronger in western North Dakota.

Amber Koehler, NRAEMT, and EMS Director Kyle Michels, NRP—congratulations to both of you on these incredible and well-deserved honors.

Amber, being recognized with the Bradley Burgum Leadership Award speaks volumes about the kind of leader you are. Your ability to lead with integrity, compassion, and consistency has made a lasting impact on your team and the patients you serve. You set the tone for those around you, and your dedication to growing others and strengthening EMS does not go unnoticed.

Kyle, receiving the 2026 NDEMSA Presidential Award for exceptional leadership and innovation is a powerful reflection of the work you’ve put in at the local and state level. Your efforts to advocate for EMS have helped shape the future of our profession across North Dakota. The time and persistence that kind of work requires often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt by providers and communities statewide.

Both of these awards represent more than individual achievements—they highlight the strength of leadership, advocacy, and commitment within EMS. Our profession is better because of both of you. Congratulations again.

Thank you County Commissioner Jim Haag, who serves as the EMS Portfolio Commissioner, for joining us this morning.

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and here at BCEMS we want to take a moment to recognize the folks who are always there when it matters most.

A big thank you to our telecommunications specialists at Dickinson LEC and the State Emergency Communications Center. You’re the calm voice on the other end of the line during someone’s worst day, the steady hand guiding responders, and the link that keeps everything moving when seconds count.

Out here, we all know how important it is to look out for one another, and your work does exactly that every single day. It does not always get seen, but it sure is appreciated.

Thank you for your dedication and our professionalism. We are lucky to have you.
