Public Forum: The Future of Medway’s Fire & Public Safety Facilities

The Town of Medway invites community members to attend a public forum on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Thayer Homestead (2B Oak Street).

Discover why a modern, combined Public Safety and Town Hall complex at 120 Main Street is essential for supporting our Fire Department's growing operational requirements, improving emergency response capabilities, and replacing aging infrastructure.

Last night crews responded to reports of an electric vehicle vs tree. Crews utilized the emergency EV plug kit to immobilize the vehicle. Driver was treated and transported to Milford Hospital.

The Medway Fire Department is hiring a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic to fill a current vacancy following the recent promotion of Lt. Wainwright to EMS Acting Captain.

We’re looking for dedicated individuals who want to be part of a team committed to serving the Medway community.

•Starting annual salary range of $72,077–$94,647 (holiday pay included)
•Education stipends available
•A newly signed collective bargaining agreement taking effect July 1, 2027

Minimum Qualifications:

•At least 18 years of age
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
•Active Massachusetts Paramedic license (this in paramedic school are still encouraged to apply)

Candidates with previous successful completion of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy or equivalent, along with at least two years of experience as a paramedic in a 911 service, will receive preference. Firefighter I/II certification and Massachusetts Firefighting Academy completion are preferred qualifications.

Our deepest sympathies go out to our brothers and sisters at the Durham Fire Department and to the family and friends of Firefighter Brokes

We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty this morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.

Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”

Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.

This loss is felt across our entire department. Firefighters step into unpredictable situations every day in service to others, and Firefighter Brokes embodied that calling with honor.

We know our community is grieving alongside us. If you wish to share your condolences or messages of support, they will be received with gratitude by our department and by those who knew and loved Firefighter Brokes.

In the coming days, we will share more information about how we will honor his service and support the firefighters involved in this incident.

Village Street Incident Update:

A 1” service line was severed and crews were initially unable to shut the flow off. Due to proximity of the brake a water curtain was established to divert the gas away from the nearby home.

Eversource was on scene and was able to shut down the gas leak within an hour.

Thank you to Holliston Fire for providing coverage for the town while crews were committed on Village St. Holliston crews along with MFD off duty personnel responded to 3 medical emergencies during the incident.
