Dietrich For Medway Select Board

Dietrich For Medway Select Board Campaign page for Martin Dietrich's Campaign for Medway Select Board I have been to many different countries and lived in a variety of places within the US.

I was raised in a small town like Medway in Wisconsin and moved to Newton Massachusetts when I was 16. I graduated from Boston College, where I met my best friend and partner in life, Susan. It was here where the seeds of service were planted as the school's motto is Men and Women for Others. In 2008, I was transferred to Boston for work and needed to move to a location a bit closer. We scoured th

e MetroWest area until we found this little gem of a town called Medway which reminded me of my hometown in Wisconsin. Ironically we found the perfect house on a road I used to ride my motorcycle on when I was a teenager. In the other places we lived, our service usually started in our church, and Medway was no different. We knew Medway was going to be our home for quite awhile so we expanded our service roles into other parts of the community.

• Finance Committee - Member, Vice Chair, and Chair of the Finance Committee. It was a great introduction to the town and how local government is run. In my time there I not only became educated, I was able to use my professional background to help ensure we were being transparent with our budgeting and spending.
• Youth Sports - I have two boys who were active in t-ball, soccer, swimming and football, and I spent time coaching on and off the field. Additionally, I teach Kenpo Karate to kids ages 5 - 12
• Scouting - Scouting was a big part of our family's life. Both of our sons became Eagle Scouts and I served as a den leader, treasurer, trip leader and merit badge counselor.
• Medway Village Church Food Pantry - Multiple roles since 2012; weekly duties include stocking shelves, picking up and sorting donations, and delivering food to homebound clients. I also took client orders every week during the pandemic while the food pantry operated outdoors, and when not teaching on Saturday mornings, I still volunteer when the pantry is open for clients.
• Medway Marches - Founding Board Member - Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity are important to me. Medway Marches' mission to help Medway be a more inclusive community for our BIPOC population fits well with the direction I think we need to go as a community.
• Energy & Sustainability Committee - Member since 2020 - I am a big fan of working towards green solutions and using our resources effectively
• IDEA Committee - Led a group of citizens to develop and propose the newly approved IDEA committee appointed by the Select Board in April 2021

My professional background has been focused on leading effective operational transformations primarily in the insurance industry. I help companies that need significant operations improvement to enable growth. I approach problem solving with customer centric data driven solutions that create additional capacity and help organizations focus on what they do best. I am motivated everyday by the problems I can solve and the people I can help. My family has lived in Medway for 13 years and we have actively participated in it its growth and development. I think the current Select Board has done a great job over the past 15 years, and I also think it is time to have a new voice and perspective in town government. I will work tirelessly to ensure that we continue to make Medway a great place to live for all of us. I would be honored to earn your vote on Tuesday, May 17th!

So excited for MPD to get another great leader to continue keeping us safe and serving the community.

I am so proud of this town for showing up to vote yesterday. We normally get less than 10% of people out to vote and yesterday there were over 20% of registered voters and a ton of 1st time voters.

While I missed by 50 votes this year, I am excited for those who won and wish them all the best as they continue to make Medway an awesome place to live. I was also excited about how many people came out to run for volunteer positions this year.

If you did not win, look around town for opportunities to serve where you have passion. There are a lot of boards and committees that need expertise or just people to lend a hand. We have so many ways to give back to Medway, I hope you all look for new ways to bring your passion and skills to role that can help Medway

Now for the ask!

This year, we had a lot of candidates w a lot of signs (my estimate is roughly 1400 signs are out in our town) - it is time to clean them up. If you have a sign (or several) please take them out of the ground if they have not been picked up by the end of the day. PM me where they are and I can swing by on Friday to pick them up and get them back to any of the candidates.
Thank you to all who came out and voted and especially those that voted for me; the response was overwhelming.

The home stretch is here and we are coming in hot.

Please make sure you have a plan to vote either on Tuesday or by noon tomorrow at town hall (feel free to tell 10 of your friends to get out and vote as well) :)

Also, if you want to have some fun that day and hang out with some great people, please come on down and hang out and hold some signs with us. It was a great experience last year and I am looking forward to it on Tuesday. I put a Sign up genius below; just scroll to May 17th and pick a slot. Come down for as long as you can (I will be there from 7a to 8p.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the Middle School on Tuesday!

A little late notice, but if you have some time around 5-7 tonight, there will be a fun group at the HS holding signs for me and other candidates. Lots of activities at the HS tonight, so great exposure for the candidates!

Election day is coming and it is great to get out and make sure people know who is running.  Standing out with signs is a great way to do it.  There will be a group of people from our campaign as well as others, so it will be a fun big crowd!

Please make sure to thank a Fire Fighter today. They run into what we usually would run out of!

The MPD would like to pause on International Firefighters Day to recognize the men and women of the Medway Fire Department for all they do to keep our town safe . This is a day set aside for firefighters to remember those they've lost in the line of duty. While they honor those who have given the greatest sacrifice, we thank our partners for the work they do day in and day out.

Do you have an opinion or idea?

Accessibility to information and Communication from our elected officials are important to ensuring active participation from the community. Last night at the Select Board meeting two items came up that are not huge items, but warrant some community engagement.

The first was beautifying electrical boxes with two general ideas - wrap them with historical pictures of Medway or have an artist paint them. Both great ideas and the town admin is going to try to get the two committees to work together to come up with a plan (seems like we have enough in town to do both ideas). I was surprised to hear that a SB member said they did not want letters sent to them expressing your thoughts and thought it best to go out and talk to people. I do not disagree that this is a method, but when was the last time a SB member reached out for your opinion? Generally we ask people we see regularly for thoughts and ideas and for the past several years, I believe the SB members generally ask the same people that have been asking for several years. It is one way for 5 people to get an comment from a resident.

How do we make this better? How would you like to be engaged for your opinion from the SB?

Please post below your thoughts and ideas on how we can best engage residents in this town!
