As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to continue the conversation. 💚
Calling the police for a mental health concern can feel like a big step.
Here’s what that actually looks like.
When we respond, our focus is on safety and understanding what’s going on.
Through our Co-Response Program, officers can work alongside a clinician to assess the situation, de-escalate, and determine the best next steps.
That might include:
• Connecting someone to services in the community
• Providing follow-up support after the call
• Helping avoid unnecessary emergency room visits when appropriate
Not every call results in a hospital transport or arrest.
In many cases, it ends with someone getting the help they need and staying safely in the community.
Mental Health Awareness Month may be ending, but this work continues every day.
If you’re unsure whether to call, you can always reach out.
We’d rather be there and help than have someone struggle alone.
