UPDATE
Last nights rain/storms put a little water on the ground. However, the amount of rain we received still keeps Izard County in drought conditions with a rain difciet of 7.3 inches and therefore making conditions for outside burning extremely dangerous. With conditions being as dangerous as they are Izard County Judge, Eric Smith has decided to keep the BURN BAN ACTIVE.
IZARD COUNTY WILL REMAIN UNDER A BURN BAN UNTIL FURHTER NOTICE.

As of 8:54am on 8/13/26 Izard County Judge, Eric Smith has declared emergency status for Izard County due to dry conditions leading to flash droughting and lack of rain and has therefore isssued a BURN BAN for Izard County. Any and all outside/open burnng is now considered unlawfull pursuiant to A.C. 5-38-310. The BURN BAN will remain in effect until Izard County recieves a SIGNIFICANT amount of rain.

Attention all area fire departments!

Applications are now open for wildland fire suppression kits through October 2, 2026. Rural volunteer fire departments can apply for essential wildland response gear, including coveralls, gloves, rakes, backpack pumps, and leaf blowers.

Rural departments play a critical role in wildfire response, and this year 70 kits will be distributed to help strengthen preparedness and protect lives, property, and natural resources across Arkansas.

Thank you North Arkansas Electric Coperative for the presentation and Calico Rock Volunteer Fire Department for hosting and thank you to all the fire departments that attended. Keeping electricity in mind at emergency scenes is critical to keep cotizens and fire personnel safe and training like this is simple yet effective.

Ive had many people ask me how the tranpsort of the bridges went on 7/21/26. I'm glad to report that there were no issues during the transport, and that both bridges have been set at their locations on N. Moccasin Creek Road.
It takes good communications and coordiantion to make a project like this come together! I'd like to thank the following agencies that helped make this project a success: Independence County OEM-Bill Johnson (comms & traffic control).

Ty Grimes (Comms)
Izard County Sheriff's Office (traffic control)
Sheriff Charley Melton (comms, traffic control & coordination)
Pineville Fire Department (traffic control)
Jacob Seay (comms, traffic control & coordination)
Calico Rock Volunteer Fire Department (traffic control)
Jordan Fire Department (traffic control)
Norfork Fire Dept (traffic control)
Truck drivers Nick & Coy (The Rail Yard Inc.) who took the time to go over driving plans for the listed route and driving with safety in mind.
And last but definitely not least, the Izard County Road Dept. While I know they didn't have anything to do with the trip itself, I beleive they had the hardest part of this project! Under the leadership of Judge Eric Smith, Road Foreman Doyle Cross and Assistant Foreman Shane Dailey, great coordination was conducted at the destination points with Elmo's Crane Services, and other heavy equipment that made way for the road crew to be able to unload and set those bridges within MINUTES of final arrival in sweltering high-index heat (103°)! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HARD WORK AND ASISSTANCE AND HELPING IZARD COUNTY RECOVER FROM DISASTERS!

🚨 OVERSIZED LOAD TRANSPORT THROUGH IZARD COUNTY 🚨
The Izard County Judge, Eric Smith and the Office of Emergency Management would like to notify residents and motorists that an oversized transport carrying two (2) railcar bridges will be traveling through Izard County on 7/21/26.
Each bridge measures approximately 9 feet wide and 109 feet long, requiring traffic control and occasional delays along the transport route.
Planned Route:
•The transport will leave at approximately 6:30am from Bald K**b and travel north on U.S. Highway 67/167 through Batesville.
•It will then continue north on Highway 69 into Izard County.
•Beginning in Melbourne, the transport will travel through Brockwell and continue to Calico Rock.
•From Calico Rock, it will travel Highway 223 to Pineville, continue to Jordan, proceed down Jordan Road, then travel south on Highway 5 to its final destination on North Moccasin Creek Road.
Several public safety agencies will be working together to ensure the transport is completed safely, including:
• Izard County Sheriff's Office
• Calico Rock Fire Department
• Pineville Fire Department
• Jordan Fire Department
• Norfork Fire Department
• State Police Troop B
• Independence County OEM
• Batesville PD
• State Police Troop I
• Izard County Road

Motorists traveling along these routes should expect temporary traffic delays, reduced speeds, and intermittent stops while the oversized load passes. We ask everyone to use caution, follow the directions of law enforcement and emergency personnel, and avoid attempting to pass the es**rt vehicles or transport.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this important transport is moved safely to its destination. Your understanding helps protect not only the crews involved but also everyone traveling our roadways. Please continue to monitor the Izard County Office of Emergency Management page for updates regarding the transport schedule and any changes that may occur.

We had a great turnout this morning and got several individuals from Mt. Pleasant signed up for REGROUP! I'm truly thankful to coach Humphrey and the volunteers that helped out and made the day that much more fun!
