In 2019, Landmark Conservancy secured nearly 600 acres of pristine forest adjacent to the popular Copper Falls State Park in Ashland County. In addition to being awarded a highly competitive U.S. Forest Service Community Forest Program grant, Landmark received a $362,000 Knowles-Nelson grant to purchase the property, marking their largest land acquisition at that time.
Now known as Tyler Forks Community Forest, the property features forested wetlands, ridges, and ravines that provide critical habitat for migratory birds, brook trout, and countless other species. Beyond wildlife protection, the forest safeguards water quality for the Bad River watershed and Lake Superior and has become a hub for outdoor recreation, conservation, and education.
