Today, our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by the tragic loss of a child in our community. There are no words that can truly ease the pain of such a heartbreaking loss.

We also want to recognize the dedicated efforts of all responding agencies—fire, police, EMS, and first responders—who worked tirelessly and with great compassion during this difficult incident. These situations are never easy, and their professionalism and care do not go unnoticed.

We ask our community to keep the family, friends, and all those impacted in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

New Construction Begins...........

Groundbreaking for the new Tremont Street Fire Station took place this morning.

Present for the ceremony were Mayor Jennifer Grigoraitis, Fire Chief John White, IAFF Local 1617 President John McCarron, former Mayor Paul Brodeur, members of the Public Safety Advisory Committee, and members of the Melrose City Council

The end of an era...............

Constructed in 1929, the demolition of the Tremont St fire station began this morning.
For nearly a century, every time those doors opened and Engine 2 rolled down the ramp onto Tremont Street, someone's call for help was answered within minutes..
With an expected completion date in the fall of 2027 a new modern station will be in operation to meet the needs of a 21st century fire department, and continue to ensure rapid response times to serve the citizens of Melrose.

At 12:45 PM This afternoon, Melrose Firefighters responded to an industrial accident at a construction site on Franklin street.
The injured worker had to be extricated from the 4th floor of the building by fire crews, and was transported to the hospital by private ambulance.

At approximately 12:40 PM today Melrose Firefighters responded to a call for a house fire on Altamont Ave.
Upon arrival first due Engine 3 reported "smoke showing" , and that all occupants were out of the house.
The fire was quickly knocked down with the assistance of several mutial aid companies.
