Good Morning,

The Melrose Conservation Commission is looking for volunteers to help us address the invasive water chestnut problem at Ell pond. DCR has offered to provide a training session on Wednesday July 17 6pm-8pm at City Hall in the Cassidy conference room (2nd floor conference room at Melrose City Hall).

Some background information on European Water Chestnut (Trapa natans)https://www.mass.gov/files/documents/2017/09/06/water-chestnut.pdf

The photo below was taken at Ell pond over near the west Knoll athletic field this past July. The key is to pull the floating plants before they drop their seeds in mid August.

If you would like additional information, please contact Eric Devlin, Conservation Agent during office hours on Monday or Wednesday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
