Today was a special day for two Long Island small businesses!

We joined Optimum Business to surprise the 2026 L.O.C.A.L. Small Business Grant Grand Prize winners with $20,000 each:

Barber & Beauty Institute of New York in Nassau County
Balance Mental Health Counseling in Suffolk County

is helping people build careers through barber education and plans to expand its community outreach.

Congratulations to Press Record Studios on their grand opening!

LIA Communications Coordinator Jason Deonarine joined founders Richard Butler and Matthew Kaplowitz to celebrate the opening and tour their new studio space.

Press Record Studios is a recipient of the LIA’s L.O.C.A.L. Small Business Grant Program, presented in partnership with Optimum Business, helping amplify local businesses and fuel their continued growth across Long Island.

We are proud to support local entrepreneurs and see L.O.C.A.L. grant recipients continue to grow and invest in their communities.

Long Island MacArthur Airport has been nominated for Best Small Airport in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. After earning second place last year, the airport is seeking the community’s support to reach the top spot in 2026.

Voting is open through October 5th, and you can vote once each day.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. A quarter century later, the pain remains deeply felt across Nassau and Suffolk counties, where so many families lost loved ones. We remember the courage of the first responders and all those who helped save countless lives, even as many continue to battle illnesses caused by that day.

The LIA joined Bank of America for a brief memorial ceremony this morning to honor those we lost and reflect on how that day forever changed Long Island and our nation.

In the aftermath of the attacks, the LIA supported Manhattan businesses that had lost everything. As the LIA marks its 100th anniversary, our mission to support our economy and protect jobs remains unchanged.

We remember those who were tragically taken from us. We honor the fearless first responders who ran toward unimaginable devastation. Most of all, we continue to support one another, because that is what Long Islanders do.

God Bless America. We will never forget.
