Screening is universally recommended for women 65 and older and men 70 and older.

Women should begin yearly mammogram screenings at age 40. For some women, certain factors increase the risk for developing breast cancer and additional screening measures may be necessary. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in eight women will get breast cancer in her life, impacting hundreds of thousands of Americans each year. A screening mammogram continues to be the best tool for breast cancer detection.
3D mammography utilizes advanced breast tomosynthesis technology. 3D mammography can increase the detection of breast cancers, while simultaneously decreasing the likelihood that a woman will be asked to return for additional testing. According to the FDA, a number of studies have found that 3D mammograms find more cancers than traditional 2D mammograms and that they also reduce the number of false positives.
This technology is considered superior to conventional digital mammography and is approved by the FDA. 3D mammography is recommended for women of all breast density levels. Researchers have found that:
• 3D Mammography exams find 20-65% more invasive breast cancers compared to 2D alone.
• 3D Mammography is FDA approved as superior for women with dense breasts compare to 2D alone.
• 3D Mammography exams reduce callbacks by up to 40% compared to 2D alone

Congratulations to Travis Stott the June Spirit of SCH Winner at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO. Travis works in the Maintenance Department and has been at SCH since 2024. Here is what his nominator said about him, “He is always willing to take on anything that is asked of him even if he is not 100% comfortable in doing it. He goes out of his way to go get patients for their appointments or will take them home when they are finished. He always has a smile on his face and is very cheerful even when things are not going as well as they could. He never has a bad thing to ever say about any of his coworkers or anyone else. He is willing to help anyone out when he can and go above & beyond for SCH.” Prior to joining the SCH team, Travis worked for 23 years at Hill Phoenix and 3 years with Musgrove Farms. He is a 1995 graduate of SCR-1 High School in Memphis and has an EPA Universal Certification for HVAC. Travis and his wife, Amy, live in rural Scotland County. They have two grown children, Kylee (she works in our Therapy Services Department) and Layne, and he is grandpa to one grandson.
