The city animal shelter invites the community to a adoption event at its new location in Mena on Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event promises to be an exciting experience, with Fire pup in attendance. We hope you will join us to support our new location and consider adopting a new companion. The venue is located on Fairgrounds Road, where the former Dogwood Groomers building stands, beside the storage units.

Our Advanced Auto Extrication class took place on Friday evening and Saturday morning, instructing students on extrication methods for vehicles in various positions. Thanks are due to all who participated. Attendees represented Mena, Ink, Acorn, Cove, and Vandervoort fire departments.

Last couple days we have been doing our annual pump tests and ARFF inspection from Odens Fire EVT service. Thank you for taking care of our equipment.

This evening, several of our team members attended the annual Board of Realtors Special Olympics fundraiser, which proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The auction featured a diverse array of items, including baked goods, a Blackstone grill, handmade crafts, and many other exciting prizes. This event stands out as a fantastic fundraising effort for our community.

Yesterday, we visited Cossatot River 6th grade students to provide information about the fire service and our duties.

The fire department is looking for a large rope we can use for a fire truck pull. It needs to be around 1 1/2” in diameter and maybe 25 feet long. give or take We would like to use it around the first or second weekend of June possibly during the lum and abner festival. Firefighter Chris Hartman is congratulated on successfully completing the Arkansas fire training academy, achieving FF1 and FF2 certification after dedicating himself to an intensive 8-week program.
