Because of the election laws written by Democrat and Republican politicians in Little Rock, a political party whose candidate for governor or president must receive three percent of the vote or the party must gather ten thousand signatures and be re-certified as a new political party for the next election. Time and again we have had to endure this expensive process. Because of this requirement, anyone wishing to vote for our candidates in the nomination phase of the election must join the party by applying and paying dues of ten dollars a year. In other words, Libertarian supporters have to pay to vote, and they have to attend our convention to cast their vote rather than go to their local polling place. That limits public participation and the pool of perspective nominees. We are, by nature, far from an elitist party, but we are forced, by operation of law, to appear that way.
