• This event is ONLY for materials coming from residential properties; items from businesses or farms will not be accepted.
• To ensure the event serves impacted residents, proof of residency (driver's license, utility bill, insurance policy card, or other mailed document) will be required at check-in.
• Appointments are encouraged and will be prioritized to support an efficient process.

**TORNADO DEBRIS COLLECTION UPDATE**
The City of Menasha is beginning to wind down some of its tornado debris collection efforts.
**Building material storm debris will continue to be collected through Friday, August 28.** Materials placed on the terrace after that date will not be collected as part of the tornado cleanup effort.
Storm debris is scattered waste, wreckage, and natural material left behind by high winds, heavy rain, flooding, or other severe weather. Storm-related building debris may include loose materials such as:
* Siding
* Roof shingles
* Construction wood
* Fencing
* Other loose structural materials damaged by the storm
Furniture, remodeling debris, tires, and other regular bulky items are not part of this collection. Tires are drop-off only. Other bulky items should be handled through the City’s normal bulky item program.
If an entire structure needs to be torn down, disposal of those materials is the responsibility of the property owner. A raze permit is also required through the City’s Community Development Department.
**Vegetative debris collection will continue for the time being.** This includes larger brush, branches, and trees. Small amounts of leaves and branches may be placed curbside in biodegradable paper bags.
The City will provide at least one week of notice before vegetative debris collection ends.
Thank you for your patience as crews continue working through the remaining storm cleanup.

A great message from Menasha Parks and Recreation.

What a whirlwind of emotions we’ve had throughout the past few weeks - grief, gratitude, sadness, hope, and pride in our community. There is a long road ahead of us still, but our community has proven to be here for one another.

Please utilize 2-1-1 to ask for any level of help. These requests can be for everything from tree removal assistance to raking debris and branches from your yard to knowing where to access resources like food or even needing emotional support.

We’d like to share the following updates on our department services with you:

Parks

At this time, Smith Park and Hart Park are closed to the public due to substantial damage. You may notice several of our playgrounds and facilities in other parks also closed, although the green space in those parks remain open. Once they can be reopened, the caution tape and signs will be removed, and we will share the information on Facebook and on our website.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many individuals and companies who have spent time making our parks and trails safe and accessible.

Fall and Winter Programs

We have been hard at work determining the ways we need to adjust our Fall and Winter programs and activities. Because our timeline has been derailed, we will not be mailing our Fall/Winter Activity Guide. . It is online now at: https://www.menashawi.gov/departments/parks_recreation_forestry_and_cemeteries/index.php. Residents of Menasha may begin registering on August 18 and non-residents may begin registering August 25. We still have a lot planned and are eager to once again build opportunities for places and play.

Our Urban Forest

Our department is heartbroken about the tree loss we have experienced. Crews are actively working on clearing hazards as well as identifying the trees that can be saved. These decisions are led by a certified arborist. Please honor all park closures and stay clear of active work being done. Our trees are as resilient as our community. We ask for patience as we understand the current state of our urban forest. Once we have had the time to develop it, we will share details on our replanting and canopy restoration plan.

INFORMATION FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 13th.

Storm-damaged debris removal will continue on THURSDAY, AUGUST 13th targeted locations in City of Menasha, City of Neenah, and Village of Fox Crossing.



The map with BLUE-highlighted areas is for HEAVY EQUIPMENT RECOVERY OPERATIONS.
ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 13th at 600 am, residents in the indicated areas should have their vehicles moved out of the roadway. If vehicles remain on a street, crews will not have access to the area.

Starting at 6AM, the following areas will be SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY:
Menasha:
The entire area within: DePere St. & 2nd to Ice St. to the water. DePere and 3rd Street to Plank St until 6th Street.
Doty Island: The entire area bound by Park Street east until Willow Lane, Nicolet Blvd to Keyes Street. Naymut Street will be working as well.
City of Neenah: Kittiver Court and Beaulieu Road between Park Drive and Nicolet Blvd. 11th and 12th Street between Hewitt St and Nicolet Blvd. 9th Street, Webster, and Grant. There will be periododic closures on E. Forest Ave.
Fox Crossing: Palisades Drive Area no specific closures, just ongoing operations.

Attention to the following FEMA message.

WHAT IS A PRELIMINARY DAMAGE ASSESSMENT?

Over the next several days, residents may see teams from , Wisconsin Emergency Management, and local agencies in storm-damaged neighborhoods.

This is part of the Preliminary Damage Assessment, or PDA, process. The purpose is to validate the overall level of damage and help the State determine whether requesting a federal disaster declaration is warranted.

What residents should know:
Teams may visit damaged homes and neighborhoods, but they do not need to visit every property.

Some damage can be reviewed using information already collected by local and county officials.

PDA teams do not enter your home.
Team members will have identification.
PDA teams do not charge money.
You do not have to be home when they visit.
If your home is not visited, that does not affect possible future eligibility for federal assistance.

How damage may be classified:
Destroyed: Total loss or structurally unsafe
Major: Significant damage and generally uninhabitable without major repairs
Minor: Habitable but repairs are needed
Affected: Cosmetic or limited damage
Inaccessible: Teams cannot safely inspect the property
This is only an early step in the FEMA process.
The PDA gets the process moving, but it is not an application for FEMA assistance and does not mean federal assistance has been approved.

After the assessment is completed, the State reviews the information and decides whether the damages meet the thresholds to request a federal disaster declaration. If a request is made, FEMA reviews it and a federal decision follows.

This is not a quick process. It can take several weeks or longer, and there is no guarantee that a federal disaster declaration or individual assistance will ultimately be approved.

Residents should know that FEMA's criteria/requirements for each classification category are different from the American Red Cross, building inspectors, and insurance companies.

A home that is condemned by a building inspector may only be classified as major or minor under FEMA's process.
Residents should continue working with their insurance company, documenting damage with photos and videos, keeping receipts, and making necessary temporary repairs to prevent additional damage.

Recycle That Stuff in Appleton is hosting an in-house Electronics & Appliances Recycling Event to help with tornado relief efforts.
* Monday, August 10th through Friday, August 14th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
* They will be offering free recycling for one (1) free TV or monitor per person per day. * You MUST show proof of residency confirming that you live in a tornado-affected area.
* Standard rates apply for additional electronics, appliances, other items, or for anyone outside of the affected area.
* Most small electronic items are free; make sure to remove ALL batteries before recycling.
