PICKING UP TIME CAPSULE ARTIFACTS
Those who have yet to pick up personalized time capsule artifacts are urged to do so as follows:
PLACE: Miller Building (SCHGS Offices/Museum), 150 W. Court Ave., Mendenhall

TIME: 10:00 AM - 12:00 NOON
NOTE: Remaining personalized artifacts will be mailed if addresses are available, and a postage fee may
be applicable

In 1974, the citizens of Simpson County placed a Time Capsule in the ground, on the Courthouse Lawn. 50 years later, as instructed, Simpson Countians gather to unearth their connection with friends, family, and a community of a different age.
Festivities begin at 9:00A.M.
BYOC (Bring your own chair) and watch the capsule rise to the surface. Opening Remarks and Capsule Instructions by Bicentennial Executive Chairman, Don Steen.
Organization and PATIENCE is key!
Adequate space is available for those wishing to bring a chair, sit back, and enjoy the experience. The immediate area surrounding the Capsule, is prohibited to Bicentennial Executive and Community Members, to document each item.
Once documented, if identifying marks are found, the artifact is placed on a table and announced for claim.
Artifacts not having identification will be placed in the Simpson County Historical & Genealogy Museum.
NOTE: Artifacts with identifying marks, which are not claimed on the day of the event will be listed on the website. www.SimpsonCounty200.org

Bicentennial Christmas Ornament DRAWING!
Don Steen, our Bicentennial Executive Chairman will conduct the random selection of names, by purchased ticket, for 93 of the 100 Limited Edition Christmas Ornaments, handmade by local artist, Wade Stephenson.
Silent Auction:
Ornaments are signed and numbered with the remaining last three available by Silent Auction in the Courthouse Rotunda.
Entertainment:
Buddy Mullins, our local and beloved talented musical artist and vocalist, will perform at Alice Davis Park from 10A.M.-12P.M.

Saturday, June 22, 2024, Mendenhall hosts local artist with "Art in the Park". Events begin at 10a.m., with LIVE Music by Cabin Crew, complimentary Brunch provided by Sweets and Eats Catering, Photographer, Local Authors, and more.

Friday, June 21, 2024, Simpson County Bicentennial Executive Committee Member, Dr. Scotty Holloway, provides an in-depth presentation of Civil War struggles and successes in Simpson County.
Program starts at 6:00 PM, at the Magee High School Auditorium.

Join us, around the Courthouse steps, Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:30a.m., for a Bicentennial Fashion Show, featuring Simpson County and Mendenhall Royalty Models: Kim McGuffee, Patra Massey, and Mollie Magee, just to name a few.
We are extremely excited for these Ladies to return to their hometown, for a once in a lifetime event!
"Art in The Park" starts at 10a.m., so, arrive early and join the festivities of the day!

Take a musical ride through our cultural heritage with noted Blues Historian, Dr. Kevin Greene. Author of the book "The Invention and Reinvention of Big Bill Broonzy," Greene's love and knowledge of the genre creates a compelling narrative that is both fun and informative. He will also discuss Mendenhall's own Pauline Braddy, who rose to prominence as a member of the musical group, The International Sweethearts of Rhythm during the 1940s. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

It's almost time!
In less than four weeks, the Simpson County Sesquicentennial Time Capsule will be unearthed and opened. (1974)
July 4th, at 9a.m. - Time Capsule Opening
Each artifact will be documented, photographed, and cataloged for distribution (for items with identifying heirs).
Enjoy activities in Alice Davis Park, and on Main Street, while artifacts are being documented.
All non-claimed items will retire to the Simpson County Historical and Genealogical Society, for display.
Bring a chair, and stay hydrated!
