🚒🖤 We Will Never Forget 🖤🚒

Today, we pause to honor the memory of the Worcester 6 — six brave firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on December 3, 1999, during the Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse fire. Their courage, dedication, and selfless commitment to protecting others will forever remain a part of our fire service brotherhood and sisterhood.

These firefighters entered the burning building searching for individuals believed to be trapped inside — a testament to the true purpose and heart of our profession: to risk our lives for the lives of others.

The devastating loss of the Worcester 6 forever changed the fire service, leading to improved training, communication, accountability systems, and national fire safety standards. Their sacrifice continues to guide departments across the country, including ours here in Ashland.

A memorial now stands at the Franklin Street Fire Station, built on the site of the fire, ensuring their memory endures for generations.

Today and every day, we remember them.
We honor their bravery. We stand with their families.
We will never forget. 🖤🚒🙏

Lt Chris Nudd and 31 of his teammates will begin the 186 mile ride tomorrow morning from Sturbridge to Provincetown. The route passes through Town of Mendon, MA for a few miles.
We would love to see you out and about supporting and cheering on all the riders!

🔥Each one of us has committed to raising a minimum of $6000.00 to benefit the Professional Firefighters of MA/Dana-Farber program Direct Connect!

What is Direct Connect?
🔥Most of you know firefighters have a great risk of being diagnosed with occupational cancer. In order to support our brothers and sisters, Boston Fire Cancer Foundation, PFFM, & Dana-Farber joined forces to create a program to streamline and facilitate firefighters and their families to get the help they need.

🔥All proceeds go directly to Dana-Farber and our team appropriates our funds to Direct Connect!

🔥We all will be clipping in THIS Saturday, 8/2, to ride 109 miles from Sturbridge to Mass Maritime, & 77 miles on 8/3 from Mass Maritime to P-town! (Some members are even starting at the NY STATE LINE tomorrow 8/1)

Another Horribles Parade in the books. While it was a quicker than usual event, we were able to get the parade kicked off, prizes handed out and hot dogs/ice cream eaten before the storm rolled in.

Thank you to those who donated to our event. Muffin House Cafe in Mendon, Southwick's Zoo, More than a Zoo, Altitude Trampoline Park - Franklin, Pinz Entertainment, Worcester Red Sox,Worcester Railers HC, Providence Bruins, Worcester Bravehearts, and George's Surf 'N Turf.

And finally, a huge Thank you to Mendon Brothers of the Brush for cooking the hot dogs and arranging the ice cream truck; Town of Mendon, MA Select board members and town HR director Jenn, for being excellent judges; Mendon Police Department for assisting with traffic; And last but not least Mendon Fire Department on-call members and Chief Bangma for helping out with setup/cleaning up and of course for supporting this great community event!

For those who are wondering, the Mendon Fire Horrible Parade is scheduled to kick off July 3rd at 6:30pm. We will be gathering at the Parking Lot of Emerson St/Hastings St at 6-6:15pm. The plan is to march the old route down Maple St, ending at Town Hall.

We have great prizes from The Muffin House, The WooSox, Worcester Bravehearts, Worcester Railers, Providence Bruins, Pinz , Altitude Franklin, Southwicks Zoo and George’s Surf and Turf.

As always, hot dogs will be cooked by the Mendon Brothers of the Brush and an ice cream truck will provide cool treats. We hope to see everyone there!
