This week Mendota and Troy Grove Fire Departments trained on the use of standpipes. Standpipes are used to get water from ground level up to higher levels such as in high rises, or even grain facilities. Members went over the proper hose connections at ground level, pumping techniques, and hose connections at the top of a structure and getting the correct water pressure to fight a fire. Thank you to ADM Flour Mill for the use of their facility for this training.

The Mendota Fire Department conducted training last week at our training grounds. This training was a search and rescue of multiple floors in a hazardous environment with a victim being located and removed from an upper floor by use of our ladder tower.

The City of DeKalb regrets to inform the community of the tragic passing of one of our firefighter/paramedics on Monday, April 6, 2026. Our focus remains on supporting the firefighter’s family, friends, and our department members during this difficult time.

We would like to congratulate Lonny Eisenberg on his recent retirement from the Mendota Fire Department. Lonny dedicated 32 years to the citizens of Mendota by serving on the Mendota Fire Department. Congratulations on your retirement, and thank you for all of your years of service to the community. We wish you well on your retirement!

Less than 1 week to get your raffle tickets for our 1/4 beef raffle and/or our amazing golf raffle! Make sure to get your tickets!! Also, this Saturday is our Fireman’s Dance and Card party. Come to the ELKs lodge to try your hand at Blackjack, your luck at Chuck-A-Luck from 6pm to midnight or show us your best dance moves while Abbynormal plays your favorite songs from 8pm-midnight.
Donations help the fire department to purchase life saving equipment. This past year we were able to purchase 2 more thermal imaging cameras to aid in search and rescue in low visibility.

Please help us congratulate 2 of our probationary firefighters, Eddy Patino and Dagen Setchell, on completing the Princeton Fire Academy. These two men have completed the hands on skills needed to obtain their Basic Firefighting Certification. Well done men, never stop learning.
