The Mendota Police Department would like to make the public aware that there is a college student from the European Country of Estonia in town: Mihkel Bookman Lokotar (you can call him Michael).

Mihkel is a university student from Estonia, Europe doing a summer internship with an educational company from Nashville, TN. He has checked in with the City Hall and Police Department to let you know he's around. Mihkel will be meeting up with families in the LaSalle County selling educational materials that:

1)help with ACT preparation by Princeton Review

2)help with college credit classes by McGraw Hill

3)study guides that help parents to help kids with new math & save time with homework and test prep

4)leadership program that teaches life skills and success habits

5)and a jump start program for the pre-k kids that give a head start for school.

Mihkel is driving a two-door red Dodge Stratus and has an accent, please do not be intimidated by that. If you are not interested, he will thank you for your time and leave you in a good mood.

Ride Safe. Get Rewarded!

Mendota Police and the city of Mendota are launching a new program to recognize safe riding. If officers see kids or adults following the rules—stopping at signs, yielding to pedestrians, wearing safety gear—you might earn an ice cream coupon from Beck’s or La Esquinita de Oro.

If an officer stops to chat, don’t assume you’re in trouble… you might have just earned a sweet treat! 🍦

An Air Quality Alert is in effect for portions of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana through tonight due to unhealthy ozone and wildfire smoke levels at times. Air quality is expected to be at unhealthy levels for everyone but especially for sensitive groups. Consider limiting prolonged outdoor activity.

We are so excited to team up with the Mendota Police Department again and bring back the Sweet Corn Festival Shuttle Service. Proceeds will be split between the MPD's K-9 Fund and Reimagine Mendota's Pavilion on Main Fundraiser.

At this time we are looking for drivers. Anyone who is 18 years of age and has a valid driver's license can sign up to drive a shift. All shifts are listed below and we have 5 golf carts / UTV's per shift so we need LOTS of help. If you are interested in driving you can call Tammy at 815-539-9331, call or text Vicki at 815-866-5558 OR call or text Sandi at 815-228-8915. Feel free to sign up for more than one shift:)))

IMPORTANT: We are asking all drivers to please only bring one passenger with them if they'd like to. We know this helps with answering the phone and writing locations. The remaining seats need to be open for passengers. thanks for understanding!

The Mendota Streets and Parks Department will be doing storm clean up on Wednesday July 8th. If you have any tree limbs or debris from storm damaged trees have if stacked at the road by 6:30am Wednesday July 8th.
