PRESS RELEASE - SUSPECT SAFELY RETURNED TO CUSTODY FOLLOWING ESCAPE

Menifee, CA – On June 16, 2026, 24-year-old Kodee Crouser of Quail Valley was arrested for Felony Vandalism and Violation of Probation and transported to Cois M. Byrd Detention Center.

At approximately 12:12 p.m., the Menifee PD transport officer was standing with Crouser in the secured parking lot area of Cois M. Byrd Detention Center awaiting entry into the jail for booking. While waiting to enter the facility building, Crouser was able to separate himself from the transport officer and flee from the property.

Personnel from the Menifee Police Department and our partners at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office immediately coordinated a search of the area and located Crouser a short time later. There is no ongoing threat or safety concern to the public related to this incident.

The Menifee Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the escape and the events that led to this incident. Additional charges related to the escape may be considered as the investigation progresses.

25 Drivers Cited at Menifee DUI/DL Checkpoint

A total of 25 drivers were issued citations while conducting a DUI/DL checkpoint on Saturday, June 13, 2026
The checkpoint was held near the intersection of Scott Road and Lindenberger Road from 7pm to 2am. 767 vehicles were screened, 8 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, 17 drivers were cited for various driving violations, and 1 driver was arrested for DUI

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

The Menifee Police Department is 100% committed to preventing, deterring, and arresting impaired drivers in Menifee and it will continue to be a top priority.

The Menifee Police Department will hold another DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint September 26, 2026.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by the California Highway Patrol Cannabis Grant.

Legal E-bikes are designed to meet specific classifications and safety requirements. Electric dirt bikes and Surron-style vehicles, on the other hand, are often capable of much higher speeds and generally do not meet the requirements to be operated on public streets, bike lanes, sidewalks, or trails.

Knowing the difference matters. These vehicles can pose serious safety risks to riders, pedestrians, and motorists when operated illegally. Across Southern California, agencies have seen a rise in collisions involving electric dirt bikes, including incidents resulting in serious injuries and fatalities.

Before you ride, make sure your bike is legal for where you plan to operate it. Understanding E-bike classifications helps keep everyone safe and prevents costly citations or vehicle impounds.

🚲 Class 1: Pedal-assist only, up to 20 mph
🚲 Class 2: Pedal-assist and throttle, up to 20 mph
🚲 Class 3: Pedal-assist only, up to 28 mph

If it looks like a dirt bike, performs like a dirt bike, and exceeds e-bike classification standards, it may not be street legal.

Ride smart. Ride safe. Know before you go.
