Just an excerpt from the article below. Of one of the efforts underway to address the homeless challenge here in the Bay Area.

“Recruiting landlords also is a challenge for the Homecoming Project, which houses formerly incarcerated people – a group that’s often stigmatized. Using donations, the nonprofit pays hosts in Alameda and Contra Costa counties $30 a day to house someone in a spare bedroom for six months. Each former inmate is matched with a case manager to help them find a job and save money for a permanent home. S*x offenders aren’t eligible.”

“There are a lot of people out there who want to do something meaningful to try to alleviate the homelessness problem,” said Richmond Mayor Tom Butt.

The homeless crisis impacts all Americans. For there to be a better tomorrow, we must address the homeless crisis in this country.

“What people don’t typically realize when they walk past a person who’s homeless is that this person is costing taxpayers a lot of money,” said Sam Tsemberis, chief executive officer at Pathways Housing First Institute"

The Covid pandemic caused a surge in housing costs and a rise in unemployment, leaving nearly 600,000 Americans unhoused in 2020.

In our village, we make sure that everyone has a place to safely lay their heads and protected from the elements.

My friends and I created this village for 1 big purpose. We want to eliminate homelessness in the area. We believe everyone should have a home.

We believe no veteran, no woman, man, child should be without a place that they call home.

So welcome to our village.
