In the final days of Menlo Park’s Summer of Service (SOS) program, youth participants worked together to hold a car wash at the City Corporation Yard!

SOS is a specially designed summer camp program for rising middle schoolers. The program combines leadership development, community service through volunteering and teamwork. Congratulations to the SOS participants for completing the program and building valuable skills together.

🎶 The City of Menlo Park celebrates the end of another wonderful season of music and community during the 2026 Summer Concert Series. Check out this summer’s highlights:

July 8: Boys of Summer Band kicked off the series at Fremont Park boysofsummertribute.com
⭐ Vice Mayor Jennifer Wise welcomed the crowd and Menlo Park resident and Beechwood School student, Johnny Borlo, jammed with the band to Hotel California on his electric guitar!

July 15: Fog City Swampers at Fremont Park swampersmusic.com
⭐ This classic rock tribute was a hit that had the community up and dancing all evening.

July 22: Fast Times at Fremont Park
⭐ It was an 80’s dance party with kids in attendance having an especially fun time dancing to their parents’ and grandparents’ favorite nostalgic hits.

July 29: Smokin’ Slice of Mojo at Fremont Park
⭐ This performance shared soul/R&B talents from a 9-10 person band that included a saxophonist as well as special guest percussionist, Jorge Bermudez, who has played with Santana and Crowded House.

July 31: Patrón Latin Rhythms at Karl E. Clark Park
⭐ The first concert of the summer at Karl E. Clark Park played a mix of Latin music plus soul and R&B with seniors dancing most of the night!

Aug. 5: Given to Fly at Fremont Park
⭐ Some members of the band are Menlo Park residents! Thank you to Menlo Church for being great neighbors and sharing free Bliss Pops across the street in addition to opening up restrooms and a water station.

Aug. 7: Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble at Karl E. Clark Park
⭐ Curley won Best Regional Roots Music Album at the 2026 GRAMMYS and brought the energy all night!

Aug. 12: The Sun Kings at Fremont Park
⭐ With 1,300 in attendance including Supervisor Ray Mueller, Mayor Betsy Nash and City Councilmember Drew Combs, we ended the concert series with the biggest audience seen in the last three years! In celebration of the Almanac’s 60th anniversary, the community also enjoyed games, bubbles and refreshing treats provided by the Almanac, the City and Menlo Church.

📸 Thank you to Rick Morris for capturing the Aug. 12 event!

🎉 Shout out to our sponsors AlmanacNews, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan and West Bay Sanitary for their support. Learn more at menlopark.gov/SummerConcerts, we hope to see you next year!

The Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a study session Monday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. for a proposed project that would comprehensively redevelop the former USGS campus (345 Middlefield Road) with a new mixed-use project that includes 670 dwelling units, about 713,000 square feet of office space, about three acres of publicly accessible space and about 40,000 square feet of non-office commercial and amenity space.

The Aug. 24 study session provides an opportunity for the community and Planning Commission to learn more about the proposed master plan, ask clarifying questions and provide comments for the applicant and staff to consider. The staff report will be available on the agenda webpage no later than 72 hours before the meeting.
