🚨🚒 February 18, 2026 : THE FIRE MARSHAL FINDS THAT CONDITIONS IN ADAIR & GUTHRIE COUNTIES ARE SUCH THAT OPEN BURNING CONSTITUTES A DANGER TO LIFE OR PROPERTY. IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED THAT NO PERSON SHALL ENGAGE IN OPEN BURNING IN GUTHRIE OR ADAIR COUNTY, EXCEPT AS SPECIFICALLY PERMITTED BY IOWA CODE 100.40(3).

MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF:

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT-

Stuart Fire Department along with Dexter Fire & Rescue and Menlo Fire & Rescue will be conducting a controlled training burn (live fire) of the old Country Kitchen building located just south of the interstate on 01/03/2026 at 8am. PENDING WIND CONDITIONS. This will be a large scale event and closely monitored by Joint Command.

Although we know the community will want to watch this event we strongly encourage everybody to avoid the area. There is already enough traffic in that area coming off of the interstate and we want to avoid backing up traffic and or causing fender benders. There will also be a heavy law enforcement presence in the area to keep the shoulders of the near by roads clear of spectators.

Access to the old gas station and the motel will be limited and and closed to the public.

Attached is a Google image of the area. The red markings are the areas that Parking will not be permitted during the event.
