Thank you all for a heart warming, successful and sometimes teary eyed day. This year's "Embrace Life" family walk is in the books. Community, Su***de prevention network, and Legion volunteers all came together - if just for a few hours - as one beating heart. ❤

09/25/2021

Tomorrow is the perfect day to be the light. Perfect day to renew hope, to give strength and lift someone up. That’s right the Embrace Life walk is already here. Come join us tomorrow at the American Legion from 11 to ???? Let’s embrace all walks of life. Let’s spread energy and strength and hope. Let shower our community with hope and love. Because hope buys time, time buys hope, hope buys time.

There is a volunteer sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the bar room. This is not for one specific event. It's a contact sheet so we can call and see if you can help for one of our many upcoming events.

From the Commander

Greetings Legion Family!

July was a whirlwind of activity and a very successful month! Once again, a HUGE shout out and heaps of thanks to the many people who step up to volunteer. Every little bit helps - Imagine if everyone helped just a little bit!

It was nice to see so many “new” faces “Pitching in.” - You may have noticed one of those new faces cooking French Fries during the last couple of outdoor events. Welcome aboard Tom Englund! Recently retired, Tom has lived in Menominee all his life and is an Army Veteran. Tom has been “Johnny on the spot” and very giving of his time this summer. He’s jumped in with both feet and has accepted to fill the remainder of Worth Holmes’ (resigned) Club Committee appointment (exp 7/2022).

Our August calendar is filling up fast.

August 5th Thursday
Brats for Breakfast/Antique Military Convoy. The vehicles will on display between 0700-0830. They will be parked on Doyle Drive (in-between Legion and Bandshell). We’ll be serving Brats for Breakfast out of the Snack Shack from 0700-1100. The upstairs dining room will be open for coffee if you would like to sit down and enjoy your brat with a nice cup of coffee.. We are offering delivery service on orders of more than 10 brats. We are still looking for one or two more delivery drivers. Contact Dick Pier, Bill Paris or myself if you are interested in helping.

August 7th Saturday
1981 Menominee Class Reunion.

August 8th Sunday
Celebration of Life

August 9th Monday
LEGION MEETING
1700 – Executive Committee Meeting
1730 – General Meeting

August 14th Saturday
Car Show. I don’t have all the specifics for this one. However, I know we will have the Snack Shack up and going. I do know that we have procured a “Special Liquor License” and the post will be open to the public. The Club Committee has also said they will be serving beer out of the south end of the Snack Shack with an adjacent, fenced-in “beer garden.” This is really going to be a fun day. Make sure you mark your calendars to come out and check out all the beautiful vehicles and enjoy a Burger, Brat or Beer – I’m know that I’m going to enjoy all three! We may have a few “new” items on Ye olde Snack Shack Menu – so be sure to stop down! We’ll have plenty of picnic tables available and the scenic deck is always there to enjoy.

August 19th
Concert in the park. Snack Shack opens 1630-2000. The Concert starts at 1800. This is the last one. These have turned out to be so much fun. Our Deck is the premium seating for the concert and as always, is first come first serve. This is another activity that will be open to the public. We will also be serving beer out of the south end of the Snack Shack with an adjacent “Beer Garden.”

We are always looking for ways to improve our post. We welcome comments, questions, or suggestions at our Legion meetings. They are short and informative. Mark your calendars: It’s ALWAYS the second Monday of the month at 1730 in the basement meeting room of the post.
Remember – the only way to affect change is to participate in the change.

Semper Fidelis - Tom

24 July 2021
From the Commander-

Firstly, I would like to thank the wonderful folks who work so hard, often behind the scenes with little accolade, who keep our post running smoothly. While the bartenders are paid, everyone else is a volunteer (with exception of the kitchen on Thursdays and Fridays). It is these folks who often work long hours, sometimes mentally and more often, physically - to ensure the continued overwhelming success our post has enjoyed for the last 100+ years.

Our July 3rd party was a lot of fun. We provided free meals (Hotdog, fries, and bottled water) to children under 12 while their parents enjoyed our famous Legion Burgers and Brats. The kids also enjoyed, free of charge, a huge inflatable obstacle course/24-foot slide.

Around 5:00 pm, the slide deflated, kids worn out and safely home, we all moved up into the lounge/dining area. We enjoyed a terrific all girl band who provide some great easy listening and dancing music. The Auxiliary outdid themselves with over 25 quality prize baskets for an EXTRAORDINARILY successful bucket raffle. The SAL Squadron won the grand prize/raffle which amounted to almost $500.00 (I think they bought 100 tickets)

POTLUCK. Wednesday, July 28th – Cocktails at 5:00pm - Dinner at 6:00pm. A great way to mingle and show off your cooking skills. Contact Jim Smith for more information.

CONCERTS IN THE PARK. This summer, in partnership with Jack's Fresh Market, we are selling food and beer out of the Snack Shack for the “Thursday concerts in the park” series. The next scheduled concert will be Thursday, July 29th. The Shack will open for food and beer sales 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The upstairs dinning room is also open with Bill serving up his delicious Fish Fry's as well as ala cart off the menu. Our new and spacious deck is the definitely the BEST/VIP seating area to enjoy these concerts (first come, first served). Please come down to enjoy and support your post.

BROWN TROUT DERBY is swiftly approaching – Saturday, July 31st – Sunday, August 1st. We will be serving Beer, Burgers and Brats out of the Snack Shack. If you are interested in helping - Especially set-up and tear-down – contact Judy Pier for counter or myself for cooks/runners/security. We will be serving food and beer from 11:00 – 4:00 both days. The Club/Bar Committee has obtained a Special Liquor License for this event which allows us to serve alcohol to the public. This is always a great time, and we are fortunate to be able to partner with the M&M Great Lakes Sport fishermen who host this Annual Fun Fest. There will be multiple raffles going on. Come on down to grab a Beer, Burger or Brat, get in on some raffles with fantastic prizes and watch the big fish being brought in to be weighed.

MVPA CONVOY. Thursday morning, August 5th, we will be hosting the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) convoy & drivers. The MVPA convoy, consisting of over 40 antique military vehicles, will be on display, between 7:00 am - 8:30 am. The vehicles will be parked between the Legion and the Bandshell (Doyle Drive). During this time, we will be serving Brats for Breakfast from the Snack Shack located behind the Legion Building. Once again, we will be needing volunteers to help cook, wrap and possibly deliver. – for more information contact Dick Pier or myself.

We are looking forward to a busy summer and already in the planning stages for an eventful fall and winter. If you have any ideas, we would love to hear them. If you would like to get more involved, give Dick Pier, Bill Paris or me a call and we can find a position that suits you the best.

Once again, I would like to thank everyone for really stepping up and making our post the awesome place it is. We are lucky to enjoy such fun and friendly members, the coldest beer and most fantastic view in town.

Yours in comradeship and servitude,
Tom Chernetski
