Every child deserves safety, stability, support, the opportunity to thrive and someone who believes in them.

This month, we honor the resilience of foster youth, recognize the dedication of caregivers and advocates, and raise awareness about the ongoing need for compassion, mentorship, and community support.

Together, we can make a lasting difference — one life, one relationship, and one opportunity at a time. 💙

Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As we gather with family and friends, may we also take a moment to express gratitude and remember the heroes who will never be forgotten.🇺🇸

Mental health matters at every age, especially for youth navigating school, relationships, social pressures, trauma, and life changes. Creating safe spaces where young people feel heard, supported, and valued can make a lasting difference in their confidence, healing, and future success. Every conversation, act of kindness, and moment of support matters.

5 Ways to Support Youth Mental Health:

💚Listen without judgment. Being heard can be the most powerful support.
💚Encourage healthy routines like sleep, exercise, and balanced meals.
💚Normalize talking about emotions and asking for help.
💚Limit stress and social media overload while promoting positive activities.
💚Remind youth they are not alone and that support systems are available.

Together, we can help build stronger, healthier futures for youth. 💚

A new month means new successes for the youth at Positive Alternatives. Check out the recent youth successes below!🎉

✨Group Home April Successes:

✏️A youth was accepted into a college course and another started driver's education classes. Another youth is progressing in online classes, being close to completion which also means they are close to graduation.

🏠A youth who is close to aging out was accepted into a transitional living apartment.

🐎An additional youth attended orientation to volunteer at a riding stable, which serves individuals with disabilities. Likewise, a youth who was missing their horse at home and struggling with responsibilities made a plan to do them and volunteer to do chores at an Equine therapy ranch.

👨‍👩‍👦Lastly, a youth had their first family overnight visit, which was a success!

The Equity-Centered Programming highlight for last month's activities focuses on the Wausau Group Home.

🍃This month staff facilitated a group where residents discussed what shapes their worlds. Beginning with watching, “Our tomorrows: teenagers around the world share their fears and dreams” they talked about how teens in different cultures experience life and what hardships they face. Additionally, they talked about how so many different teens worry about things much different than us. Then, youth drew a ‘map’ of their worlds (bubbles with things that affect them in their world positive, negative, and neutral). Lastly, they discussed what kind of impact these things have on them and what they wish they could change, including about what things in their life they have control over and what they don't.
