The Mentone Police Department would like to inform residents that the local Dollar General will have a delayed opening today and is scheduled to open at 2:00 PM.

This temporary adjustment is due to staffing assignments related to training at the new store location in Etna Green. There is no safety concern or emergency situation at the store.

Dollar General won't be opening until 2pm. Tuesday August 25

The Warsaw Police Department and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office are proud to announce the 26th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy. The academy will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30, beginning September 16 and concluding November 18.

The academy is open to all residents of Kosciusko County and offers a first-person experience of law enforcement operations. Topics covered include K9, dive, SWAT, traffic stops and the Kosciusko County judicial system.

The application deadline is September 2nd.

🚂 The Big Boy No. 4014 is Returning to Mentone! Let’s Keep it Safe.
​We are excited to welcome Union Pacific’s legendary Big Boy No. 4014 back to Mentone! To ensure a great experience for everyone, please keep these critical safety rules in mind:
​🚫 Stay Completely Clear of the Tracks: Always stand at least 25 feet away from the rails. The locomotive is wider than the tracks, and its massive moving parts extend well outward. Never step onto the tracks or railroad property.
​🐾 Leave Pets at Home: The Big Boy is exceptionally loud, releases intense steam, and blows a powerful whistle. This environment easily terrifies animals, creating a high risk of them slipping collars, bolting toward danger, or causing a mishap. For their safety and everyone else's, leave all pets at home.
​Let’s stay alert, look out for the kids, and enjoy this incredible piece of history safely!

🎆 Indiana Fireworks Laws & Safety Reminder 🎆
​With the holiday celebrations kicking off, the Mentone Police Department wants to ensure everyone has a fun and safe environment. Please keep these Indiana state law requirements in mind before lighting any fireworks:

​📅 Legal Dates & Hours
​Local ordinances cannot prohibit fireworks during these state-protected windows:
​June 29 – July 3: 5:00 PM until 2 hours after sunset (approx. 11:00 PM)
​July 4 (Independence Day): 10:00 AM until MIDNIGHT
​July 5 – July 9: 5:00 PM until 2 hours after sunset (approx. 11:00 PM)

​📍 Where Can You Light Them?
​You may ONLY discharge fireworks on your own private property, or on the property of someone who has given you explicit permission.

​🚫 Note: Shooting off fireworks on public streets, sidewalks, alleys, town parks, or school property is strictly illegal.

​🐾 Be a Good Neighbor
​Please respect the cutoff times. Fireworks can be highly stressful for local pets, livestock, and neighbors—including veterans sensitive to loud noises.
