Eligibility and Enrollment
Any Lake County resident who has a developmental disability may be assessed for eligibility for services through the Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood. We invite you to find out more about eligibility by contacting our Service and Support Administration at 440-350-5145.

We welcomed Kiwanis Aktion Club members back with a Halloween themed meeting! Members signed cards for Day and discussed the need list for The Sub Zero Mission, the focus of our next meeting. Nick had a goal and he met it! His quest to collect all things related to our 50 states led him to not only collect t-shirts and maps (and more), but to also travel to a good portion of the United States. Preschoolers finished their fall thematic unit with lots of small muscle work! First, we grew pumpkins in a patch for a snack by crushing Oreos on top of our pudding and adding the candy pumpkins.Then, we used tweezers to sort the apples by color onto the trees and then followed 1, 2, and 3-step directions to take them off again. Since October is , which offers an opportunity to celebrate and learn about the many workplace contributions of people with disabilities, the focus of our monthly advocacy meeting was . Center for Pastoral Leadership graciously hosted our meeting during which Lake County Advocacy members shared their aspirations about community employment. Deepwood Industries, Inc. Community Employment Services Director Julie O’Neil and Manager Chris Trombley discussed employment options. Job Coach Heidi described what working at CPL looked like on a daily basis. CES employees Christine and Tim described their experiences and the benefits of having a job coach to help them succeed at work. We love hearing success stories of individuals employed within their communities. The next meeting is scheduled for November 14.

The Knights of Columbus, Council 5286, made a donation to to be used for that will help our students interact even more deeply with the curriculum and their environment. School LEEP student Jeremy demonstrated how his communication device helps him express himself in school and out in the community.
The undefeated School Bobcats are set for an amazing 2023-2024 basketball season! We look forward to local schools/students and organizations who will share the court with us. Meet Andrea. She is new to using an augmentative communication device and is thrilled to be able to chat with people around her! She has increased her ability to communicate and, after SSA Heather asked the County Board Information Technology Department for assistance, she has now obtained a wheelchair mount for her device that keeps her words always at her fingertips instead of in a backpack on the back of her wheelchair! Priming your child for the Halloween experience can help with sensory issues and behaviors, but many families also create their own way to celebrate.
Each week, we witness so many touching moments. Max, a School-Age student in Ms Elizabeth’s class, came to school with something very special in his book bag. It was a “Healing Hero” award from his parents through the organization A Kid Again - Northern Ohio Chapter. His parents sent a statement as to why they wanted Ms Elizabeth to receive this recognition. Among other details on the certificate, it stated how Ms Elizabeth has contributed to their son’s success, how she provided materials and activities while he was home recovering from surgery, and their appreciation for the countless hours that must go into the planning of such highly differentiated educational experiences.
