Preschoolers finished their fall thematic unit with lots of small muscle work! First, we grew pumpkins in a patch for a snack by crushing Oreos on top of our pudding and adding the candy pumpkins. Then, we used tweezers to sort the apples by color onto the trees and then followed 1, 2, and 3-step directions to take them off again. Meet Andrea. She is new to using an augmentative communication device and is thrilled to be able to chat with people around her! She has increased her ability to communicate and, after SSA Heather asked the County Board Information Technology Department for assistance, she has now obtained a wheelchair mount for her device that keeps her words always at her fingertips instead of in a backpack on the back of her wheelchair! Each week, we witness so many touching moments. Max, a School-Age student in Ms Elizabeth’s class, came to school with something very special in his book bag. It was a “Healing Hero” award from his parents through the organization A Kid Again - Northern Ohio Chapter. His parents sent a statement as to why they wanted Ms Elizabeth to receive this recognition. Among other details on the certificate, it stated how Ms Elizabeth has contributed to their son’s success, how she provided materials and activities while he was home recovering from surgery, and their appreciation for the countless hours that must go into the planning of such highly differentiated educational experiences. This is truly a special moment! Learn more about this organization at www.akidagain.org.
