When you’re driving through residential areas tomorrow, keep an eye out for trick-or-treaters and do what you can to keep the children and their families safe. It is especially important that you stay focused, keep your eyes on the road, and mind your speed limit. Just last year, there were 571 speed-related crashes in Lake County. Let's work together to get that number lower. #JustDrive #DriveSafe
E-cigarettes are hooking a new generation on nicotine – putting millions of kids at risk and threatening decades of progress in reducing youth tobacco use. It’s a nationwide crisis of youth addiction, fueled by thousands of kid-friendly flavors and massive doses of nicotine. Don’t let vaping hook you. If you are looking to quit vaping, text “Start My Quit” to 36072 or check out the My Life My Quit website at https://oh.mylifemyquit.org/index #ATobaccoFreeOhio
Today is Global Handwashing Day! Did you know that if you sing the "Happy Birthday" song twice from beginning to end, that's how long you should scrub your hands?
Washing your hands is an effective way to stop the spread of germs and prevent diseases. If you need to clean your hands but don't have access to soap and water, you can use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that has at least 60% alcohol.

The kitchen can be hectic, especially during special occasions or if you have more than one pot or pan on the stove. That's why, it's important that you turn pot handles toward the back of the stove so that your sleeves don't tug at the handles and so that no one can bump them. #fpw #fireprevention
If you have a teen just starting to drive, make sure they remember to buckle up and have their passengers buckle up before starting the engine.
Keep your eyes on the road and eliminate the distractions. The safety of our communities depends on it.
Plastic accounts for 90% percent of the litter on beaches, with 22 million pounds of plastic entering the Great Lakes each year and half entering Lake Erie alone. In Ohio, the most common items entangling our wildlife are fishing line, nets, and landscape mesh. The smaller pieces of plastic known as microplastics -a plastic piece that is 5mm (size of a pencil eraser) or smaller- are being found in the gut contents of birds, fish, and mammals. We have also found plastics in humans - in our blood, our gut, and our poop. We are breathing, drinking, and eating plastic fibers every day. Let's work together to move away from single-use plastics and toward environmentally friendly habits.

Our Mosquito Control program uses both gas-powered and electric-powered sprayers to assist in lowering the population of adult mosquitoes. During the mosquito season, we spray Mon-Thurs. The electric-powered sprayers are quieter-you may not even hear them going down your street!
Did you know the LCGHD Mosquito Control crew works not only at night, but during the day, to protect our community from mosquitoes? Our daytime crew responds to complaints & when areas of standing water cannot physically be eliminated, they can be treated to kill mosquito larvae.
Have you heard about Ohio’s Move Over Law? It requires all motor vehicles to shift a lane over or slow down when passing any vehicle with flashing lights (e.g. first responders, construction workers, tow truck operators.) To learn more, visit transportation.ohio.gov.
