White Cane Safety Day October 15
Mayor Nerbun proclaimed October as Pedestrian Safety Month and October 15, 2025, as White Cane Safety Day in the City of Mequon at the most recent Common Council meeting on October 14. It is important for all residents, leaders and lawmakers to prioritize safe, accessible streets year-round.

Safe streets are essential for the well-being of all residents, including children, older adults and people with disabilities. Thousands of Wisconsinites, including over 100,000 with vision loss, rely on sidewalks, curb ramps, accessible pedestrian signals, white canes and service animals to navigate public spaces safely. Wisconsin’s White Cane Law requires drivers to stop at least 10 feet from pedestrians using a white cane or service animal. This Law is meant to reinforce the need for driver awareness and pedestrian respect.

Communities can reduce injuries and save lives by investing in proven pedestrian safety infrastructure such as high-visibility crosswalks, traffic calming and accessible design. This Proclamation hopes to raise awareness of pedestrian rights and responsibilities, which promotes a culture of safety and inclusion for all road users.

Highland Road Work Begins

09/29/2025

We have cause to celebrate!

We have received a WDNR permit, secured a certified fish biologist, confirmed approval of a contractor, ordered materials, which means sometime next week (weather permitting) we can begin the process to replace the culvert on Highland Road!

Please continue to have patience. It is a large pipe. Fish have to be caught upstream and gently relocated downstream. We have to bypass pump the flow of water. We have to remove and replace the pipe, backfill and pave.

Check back here for updates on the progress.
